We have a nice 5 gallon running with good succes. I have 4 neon tetras. Like to round it up a bit when I transfer my 2 zebra Ds over to the 55 gallon I am trying to cyle.

I have read neons can get along with a bata. I have one that is in a small tank ( YES I know that is not good for them. I change water every other day and keep as healthy as water as i can. ) I have the two Zebras in there can I add him with them in there. I will be moving them out hopfully in a few weeks as soon as my tank is ready. I could add them in new tank now and have fish in my cycling. But was hoping to do it with out harming fish. It is a pretty big tank and two little fish may help cycling.

So just wondering if I could do that to get him in a much healthier tank???

Thanks

So you wanting to keep him with the neon's? or?? You Can keep the betta with the neon's no problem, one think You may want to do is up the number of the neon's to 6 :good:

Yes that is my goal... do you think having the two zebra in there too would be ok for a few weeks....I want to add to them as well ounce I get them in my 55 gallon..should I add them to my tank to help with cycling. I just started yesterday with putting food in to start it... Will adding the two fish be a ok way to cycle ???

Your neons should be in a 10 gallon, the Betta would be OK in the 5 gallon.

A fish-in cycle in a 55 gallon would be a lot of work, because you have to keep the toxins as close to 0 as you can (Ammonia, Nitrite), that means a lot of water changes, frequent and large amounts!!! Otherwise you will hurt your fish! Also I'm not sure, but having just 2 Zebra Danios to cycle a 55 gallon may take a long time, since that would be a very small ammonia source!

ok so keep going with the feeding my tank fish food for the cycling is the way to go. yes I may even be moving the neons to the 55 gallon as soon as I get it going. :)

If you could get pure ammonia (no cleaning surfactants in it) and do a proper fish-less cycling then you could plan your stocking during that time, and once your tank has cycled you can add the whole stocking at once, since the filter will be teaming with beneficial bacteria. Adding food instead of ammonia is a lot messier, lol!

Sorry, Malawi MaD, lol, but it is odd, since I'm usually a very slow typer, lol! :zz

So sine I just started with food I can restart with the ammonia ? now to find dirrections for that. Thanks for taking the time helping. I really do not mind reading up on all this and doing the research. But I reallly really don't have the time and asking others makes me feel more comfortable that I am understanding everything.

Yes, you can switch to ammonia! Have a look at this link on this forum, you can click on specific questions you have:
