Not up close, I have one of her hiding in the plants which she pretty much does all the time. I can get a close up at feeding time when i get home from work if you like? Can you see her in that little 'cave' in the background? :)

Thanks. I tell you, short time in the hobby and im starting to notice a trend that most LFS, especially the bigger ones, dont know what they are on about. This is scary, because IMO, keeping tropical fish is something close to a speciality, its not like having a dog or cat. Surely these people...

Cheers. Plants are definately on the agenda, im just not sure exactly how many, what type etc... really need advice around that. And the filter, i intended to put plants in front of it right away, but i was concerned i might block it or at least make it less efficient??

Theyw ere labelled as rainbow gourami in the LFS I bought them from. And a quick google search confirms that is indeed exactly what they are

So, its a week after adding my first fish, 8 cardinal tetras, aswell as a male and female rainbow gourami which i love. Here are some pics, they all look happy and are doing ok. If anybody could advise on how i could make the tank more aesthetically pleasing, feel free :) Comments...

My new rainbow gouramis. Beautiful! Had him a week along with a female, both settled in great. New to keeping gouramis and fish in general. Any tips anybody can share would be great. Best feeding regime, best diet etc etc Cheers

Thanks for your input, I had thought about adding more cardinals, they do look awesome just with 8 and i imagine 16 would look brilliant. Definately worth thinking about cheers

Seems the bulb in my juwel rekord 120 has gone. I bought the tank second hand so not sure if its the original or not? Does anybody know what im look for when i go to find another? Or can anybody recommend a new one, such as what watt to use etc. I wasnt happy with the light in the tank anyway...

Excellent, they have some nice pearl danios in the LFS aswell. So I think it will be 5 male guppies + 8 danios and then i'll leave it at that. Thanks for the advice

So, realisticly, If I was to get 5 male guppies, in a 120L, alongside a male and female rainbow gouramis and 8 cardinal tetra, how many more fish could I get. i know it depends on the size of the fish etc, but i dont intend on getting anything really large, so a guesstimate would be nice! 8...

No I want plenty of room for other fish too. I was thinking, 2 male guppies and 3 female. But that could be too many? If so maybe i'll get just 1 male and 2 female. Or possibly 2 males?? :S

Im in Salford, Manchester. Got home from work and they're all fine at the minute. In fact they seem to have settled in great, even the female gourami, who hid under the filter all yesterday has made a home in some of the plants and came straight out at feeding time! Test kit getting purchased...

Ahh, understand now. Sorry im at work, quickly scanning posts and not picking up on the tone of what you wrote properly. Haha well yes I hope theres no insect larvae in there either then. You'll have to excuse my ignorance Im from the UK and we dont do wells :)

I realise it's not a good thing....thats the point I was making! Surely taking water from an outside source and using it in a tropical fish tank where the water conditions need to be at a premium can't be a smart thing! There could be insect larvae in it for one thing!

Im knew to the hobby myself too. Took interest in your thread as Im currently cycling my tank without fish. Must admit alarm bells rang when you said the ph was off the scale and you get the water from a well. Surely the ph is gonna be the main cause, and also, could there not be parasites and...

Finally got my tank cleaned, filled up, new filter set up and running. Lovely job. Next, I switched the heater on and put it in, about 5 minutes later it starts making a crazy noise and then does a mini explosion and starts smoking! I pulled it out and the bottom end has literally blown off...

Im just gonna leave it. Theres no point, I may aswell follow advice on here and accept its probably gonna be the end of january before I have fish in there but at least it will be done as correctly as possible!

Hi again After having my tank for almost two weeks and only just having got my filter, Im now ready to start cycling. Problem is I want fish now, im getting impatient! I came across a product called nutrafin cycle...says you can add fish right away with this product. Any opinions?
