My new rainbow gouramis. Beautiful!

Had him a week along with a female, both settled in great. New to keeping gouramis and fish in general. Any tips anybody can share would be great. Best feeding regime, best diet etc etc

Cheers

I must say, this is the first time I have heard this fish called "rainbow gourami" ;) The best tip I can give you is that dwarf gouramis are picky about what quality, so keep it good.

Theyw ere labelled as rainbow gourami in the LFS I bought them from. And a quick google search confirms that is indeed exactly what they are

Don't believe everything you read on Google! This is actually a Dwarf Gourami. Rainbow Gourami is a similar looking fish. It gets larger and has wider bands of color on the sides. In over 45 years of fishkeeping, this is the first I've heard a Dwarf Gourami called this. But it is a common name, often the trade changes them to make the fish sound better. Rainbow Gouramis seem hard to come by these days. Maybe Dwarfs will all be called Rainbow in the future. Yours is a nice looking fish, nonetheless.

Thanks. I tell you, short time in the hobby and im starting to notice a trend that most LFS, especially the bigger ones, dont know what they are on about. This is scary, because IMO, keeping tropical fish is something close to a speciality, its not like having a dog or cat.

Surely these people shouldnt be allowed to jsut label the fish as they please?! If its a dwarf gourami, call it a dam dwarf gourami!

Maybe Dwarf Gourami is becoming a politically incorrect name. Rainbow Gourami sounds better than Longitudinally Challenged Gourami!

Do you have a pic of the female?

Not up close, I have one of her hiding in the plants which she pretty much does all the time. I can get a close up at feeding time when i get home from work if you like?

Can you see her in that little 'cave' in the background? :)

I tend to agree with you , at the end of the day with tropical aquariums you are setting up and maintaining a miniature eco system so yes it could be classed as a speciality
