    Peppered Cory questions

So, I was at petsmart Tuesday browsing and saw they had peppered cories on sale for $2 a piece. I had an empty 10 gallon set up that had a couple of mystery snails in it but one died and the other moved to a different tank. Dual sponge filter, sand, plastic plants plus 2 anubias, 2 pieces of...

    Temptations...help! Lol

Just a little update. I did end up losing one. Probably the weak one I noticed. Hopefully everybody else will be fine though! The rest are doing their little Cory things. Lol

    Temptations...help! Lol

Petsmart is all I have unfortunately. I actually didn't plan to get these there at all. They are almost always out. I planned on getting them online. Lol. But they were there and being cute. I will watch them closely as I did leave one that was almost dead. Poor thing. It was floating. I did...

    Temptations...help! Lol

Remind me why I don't go look at the fish anymore? Lol. I was tempted...got 8 peppered cories! $2 a piece!

    Temptations...help! Lol

Peppered Cory cats at petsmart for $2 with petperks! I have an empty ten right now set up...they would go in the 55 when it's up....at least 7 that I could count in tank....yay or nay???

    New gourami acting strange??

3 spot gouramis need a bigger tank than 20. I've found this out through experience. Mine is small still and not happy in the 20 really. And he's the only fish. I will be getting him into a 55 gallon as soon as I can with suitable tankmates. (No other gouramis or paradise fish at all.)

Dual heaters in 55 gallon tank with heat controller

Hmm....I understand both sides of this debate. Lol. I think....if I was to get a controller....I would decide to use it by, before anything (fish or plants) is in the tank....turn up one or both heaters all the way and see what the temperature gets to. If it gets too high for me to be...

Dual heaters in 55 gallon tank with heat controller

RetBioTchr- I think I know the answer....but does this turn back on if the water gets back to the right temperature below 81? Or do you have to do something manually? Also, do you have a link to this? I'm just curious about it. Lol. It does sound like great insurance to me!

    Which cory?

Yeah I know, right? Lol. Those prices, no matter where, are outrageous for a common cory. I'm not sure how common those other two are though but they are great looking ones too. I am trying to stick to the more common ones that have been tank raised for quite a whike, as they usually are...

    Which cory?

So....I'm still going back and forth sort of on which cory species to get for two 55 gallons. Most of this is based on price right now....I would love sterbai cories as it would probably fit the temperature range better, but they are twice as much as peppered cories(paleatus). So...stocking one...

    Mystery snail debate.....

Thanks Nick. I did go ahead and put it in there. Took a while to start moving around but it eventually did. I haven't seen the gourami messing with it but doesn't mean it hasn't or won't happen. I'll just see how it goes. Hopefully it will perk back up and both snails can get along.

    Mystery snail debate.....

I kind of figured this but the reason I separated them was because the gold one wasn't wanting to come out of its shell. Not even really to eat. It still seems a bit beat up by it all and it's been a couple of weeks. Though I am willing to try in the 20 with all the live plants since I know it...

    Mystery snail debate.....

So...I had moved the chestnut to the 20 gallon with the gourami. So...nipped antennas and it keeps them curled in the rest of the way. But....at the moment, the gourami seems to be leaving it alone now. So...my debate now...the golden one is in a 10 gallon. Doesn't seem the hehe be doing so...

    Breeding sterbai cories

Thanks Byron. I was hoping they might in just the community tank if I had the right plants for fry to hide, but if I want more results then a different tank for them. I'm still not sure I will go this route, maybe I can find a deal on them somewhere...lol. sucks having to find all my fish...

    Breeding sterbai cories

Just curious...but is it easy to breed sterbai cories? They seem a bit on the expensive side. And I wanted some for two 55 gallon tanks. One will be way ready before the other. Is there any best way to plant a community tank so these breed naturally? Or is it best to remove eggs if they are...

    Bored gourami

Awesome! Thanks Nick! Hopefully aquarium co-op will get more in soon. They have amazing healthy plants. Lol. I signed up to be notified. Oh, and I just bought 12 water lettuce plants from hopefully a different trusted source. I've never seen them available but they had one portion left so I...

Is this the correct plant you are talking about? http://www.aquaticplantcentral.com/forumapc/plantfinder/details.php?id=226 I found it labeled as temple plant in the place I want to buy it from. But they are out of stock currently.

    Bored gourami

Thanks Nick! I may try some water lettuce too, see how that works. I added a 2nd dose of fertilizer today just to see if it helps perk the wisteria up. I'll go look up Blue Stricta and see what I can find. I have to get everything online. Lol. I may try to find some water lettuce too. I do like...

    Bored gourami

Hmm...I have the floating plants, then an almost bare middle, and the rest of the plants are lower. I was hoping the nice bunch of crypt lutea would grow taller, but it might take a while. I cut the lily pads off my dwarf lily but it hasn't really grown more leaves down below. I think for all...

I'd say moderately planted. Tried for heavy lol. I will take pictures in the morning after work if I remember. I have floating wisteria but it's kind of dwindled on me. Might be due to a couple of times me not doing a water change and fertilizing for two weeks instead of one. Trying to keep that...

    Bored gourami

My blue 3spot gourami is bored in his 20 gallon tank. He still glass surfs snd he's picking on the mystery snail I have in there temporarily. He isn't wanting to leave it alone. Is there anything I can do to "enrich" this fish's life? Would a mirror for a betta do anything? Or just keep...

    Mystery snail questions...

Yes, again....lol! Do males grow faster than females? I have a gold and a chesnut. They were the same size (I think, mostly anyway) when I got them. Now the chesnut is twice as big. I'm 80-90% sure the chesnut is male. I've seen both locked together and now the gold one doesn't want to move...

That's awesome Nick! My main worry is the lower temperature. I figured the crypts will be ok. My big tanks will mostly be crypts probably with some anubias I think. Lol. I LOVE crypts! I want parva and spiralis eventually.

Not really interested in the threadfins. I'm not really for long flowy fins. Lol. I thought of the other rainbows but they don't live that long from what I've read. Not that a breeding population couldn't be established I'm sure, but they are probably a bit more expensive. I think I'm going to...

    Guppies Red Gills

Don't be offended by us asking questions. We are trying to get to the root of your problem. But to do that we need more information to help us, alright? Please don't just go throwing things in the tank. It can stress the fish out even more.

EMERGENCY: Honey gourami with a lip bleed and warts on her lip. (Well it looks like that to me.)

Just to let you know, I wouldn't use melafix for gouramis. This can cause damage to the labyrinth organ that they need to breathe. They are in the same family as bettas.

Stocking for 5 and 20 gallon tank?

Just because it's minimum doesn't mean it's ok. And seriously fish is an amazing website where scientist that know these fish have put information. You would do well to stay to it the best you can. Trust me, I kept reading that a 3 spot gourami (max size is 5-6 inches) only needs a minimum of 20...

    Bristlenose pleco weird question...

Sorry about your sword! Lol. At least I know he has some spunk. He should do just fine in the big tank with a 3 spot gourami then. Lol. Other fish too of course!

    Bristlenose pleco weird question...

So...I'm trying to feed some vegetables to my bristlenose. He used to eat some cucumber very nicely. Then I just did algae wafers for a while. Anyway, I tried some snail jello (made with peas) for him and instead of eating it, he pulverized it.....spiking it and everything. So, figured maybe...

    20 gallon high stock options

Well it's a home office....so I'd be home to monitor. Lol. I'm just not sure I want the snails to go that low though. They aren't as active in lower temps. What do you think of the von rio flame tetras or the black neons? I think they may be similar sized fish. I would only do one of these if...

    20 gallon high stock options

Thanks Byron. The pristellas are going into the 55 with the gourami, so wanted something different for the 20. Can white clouds be kept at 70-72? Another option I thought of, other than Rio flame tetras if I could find regular ones and not orange....is the black neon tetra. I have kept it...

    20 gallon high stock options

I prefer the look of the regular ones I think. I'm not a real fan of long fin fish to be honest. Lol. I'm more sure about danios though unless there is a smaller variety I don't know of. Oh, and the other rasbora I had thought about was the glow light rasbora, trigonostigma hengeli.

    20 gallon high stock options

I'm not sure guppies would really work with the mystery snails. I've read that they usually would pick at them. I've had some male fancies before and they do go around picking at everything. Haven't ever had endlers, and I know they are smaller, but I would think they would do the same. Not a...
