Two 55 gals. Tiger barb Qs and other Qs

Tank one, yes I will leave his current 20 gallon open just for that reason until I know if he is settled or not. Tank two. I'm not really into the albinos. Weird eyes. Lol. I did look up the pictus cat again and at least live aquaria said they needed a minimum of 70 gallons? So a 55 would...

Two 55 gals. Tiger barb Qs and other Qs

So...I really need to quit changing my mind. Lol. So, for this first 55 gallon that is getting close to being set up....I plan on getting harlequin rasboras for it first. This will also house a male bristlenose, peppered cories and a blue 3 spot gourami. However....this depends on how the blue...

    Pump question

Awesome! I believe I have an extra shut off valve somewhere so if I find it I can put that on easy enough for next time! As for the water on the floor....been there done that! Lol. Mostly with the clean water hose as my shut off for it is on the tank side. Then I go shut the water off in the...

    Pump question

Forgot to add...I did lose the suction switching between tanks so I had to connect it and start it again. Only took a 10-15 seconds so I'm ok with that since I'm saving water! And, I will probably upgrade to a metal quick disonnect just for something longer lasting. Lol.

    Pump question

@AbbeysDad @Byron UPDATE!! Wow! I'm amazed! I bought a cheap plastic quick disconnect from Walmart to try this.....wow....lol. It works! It drained my 10 gallon faster, my 20 across the room maybe a hair slower than before. All I did was start the siphon (turning on both hot and cold for...

    Pump question

Thanks! Hopefully lowering the hose a bit will work but if not, at least I have a good option!
  7. cowgirluntamed

    Pump question

I will try the first option for sure, though I don't have a quick disconnect. I will just try to unscrew it first and get it a little loose. Same idea. If it works ok I will probably look for a different adapter that can go to my showerhead so it could start the siphon already in the tub. The...

    Pump question

I haven't tried it yet but I just might. If it seems to work I may just try some sort of adapter to the shower head to get it started. Not sure. I have a totally different hose for filling so it's not a problem there. Filling is easy and even wit that long of a distance it doesn't lose...
  9. cowgirluntamed

    Pump question

So basically, that pump really can't start itself though....would the pump be already connected inline while the Python is attached to the sink? If so...I would need a shutoff valve between the sink connection and the pump? That way the hose to the tank is filled with water? Another thing I was...
  10. cowgirluntamed

    Pump question

Do you know what brand or at least what I would Google to search for a pump? Just external pump? I tried looking this morning and didn't have much luck. I made the pvc hooks that Rachel o'leary showed on a video. So those are separate for each tank and I hook the hose up to that. I have one...
  11. cowgirluntamed

    Pump question

This is what I don't want to do, putting the pump in multiple tanks. I dont want cross contamination at all. I'd like a pump at the other end to just create suction and suck the water out. And I'd rather buy just one pump. Lol.
  12. cowgirluntamed

    Pump question

So would something like this not be a real viable option? how long do you thing it would take for suction to start do you think? Well, almost like that. This one said though it can't be dry run so may not work for what I need? Basically starting dry until the water comes through the hose to be...
  13. cowgirluntamed

    Pump question

I actually used Python parts mostly, it was the hose I wanted cheaper. Lol. In the long run I could have bought two....but hey, it still works. And yours may have good suction, but my water pressure isn't always up to par, hence why I'm asking about a pump for draining. That and so I'm not...
  14. cowgirluntamed

    Pump question

Ok, so my diy python to my bathroom sink has to have the water left on to siphon at all. However, it still doesn't seem that strong as it can take a little fidgeting with the hose at the tank's end to get it to start going. Length to sink is just over 50ft....lol. Now, also on the tank end I've...

    Moving gourami question

I've never had him with any other fish so far. Just the snails. He is actually less stressed than he used to be when the mystery snail wasn't in there. Rarely glass surfs now. The snail gives him something to look at. Now, he does pick on it a bit but not majorly most of the time. The snail does...

    Moving gourami question

So, my blue 3 spot gourami is still in my 20 gallon by himself except one mystery snail and Malaysian trumpet snails. I haven't gotten the 55 gallon up yet but I've finally found some one to buy my extra aquarium supplies I didn't want so I will be able to get the aquaclears and the hood for it...

    Oscar clarification questions

Awesome videos! Thanks! Now I have to do more googling.....lol. but in all seriousness, I do actually plan on using this type of training with my horse this spring! So at least I can get in some practice. Lol. Thanks again!

    Oscar clarification questions

Sounds awesome! I didn't plan on a bare tank at all. Sand substrate probably. I do want a hide or two and plastic plants specifically so it can move stuff if it wants. I wasn't really sure if u could teach it tricks but I wouldn't mind trying and maybe petting it some. Not a lot of course. I...

    Breaking the biotope...

Do you have a link to that filter? Taking nitrates out alone shouldn't alter anything. But if it removes more minerals and such then it may alter hardness. Do you know the KH of your water? This 's the buffering capacity that keeps your pH stable. If it's high before and after the filter you...

    Oscar clarification questions

Do you "play" with your oscar? People on the facebook group were mentioning it but didn't give any details. One thing I read said they gave them ping pong balls to chase around. But other than that? I'm not sure. Lol

    Oscar clarification questions

I dunno, some in videos of bigger tanks swim around. But they have individual personalities. You must have a uh...tank potatoe...lol. question...some people at the oscar group are telling people to "play" with their oscars. How exactly do they do that?
  22. cowgirluntamed

    Oscar clarification questions

Yeah, that's what I plan to do. I just wanted to do research before hand so I can think about it more and of course....I don't have money for it. Lol. I joined an oscar group on Facebook and they all said 75. And I would need to be fish less cycled first and have a couple of aquaclear 110s on it...
  23. cowgirluntamed

    Oscar clarification questions

So...is this why everyone says a 75 is ok for one oscar then? Even though it's a different base dimension? I know an oscar wouldn't want to live in 12 inches of water I'm sure. I'm hoping where I could come up with the money that there will be great deals then and I could get something bigger...

    Oscar clarification questions

So...I will say this first....I need to quit planning tanks before starting work on getting my two 55 gallons up and going.....lol. Anyway...I've always been interested in oscars. They seem like awesome fish to have. So I've been doing some research and just sort of want some clarification on...

    Planted tank ferts questions!

Thanks for the info!! I'm not looking to make my own fertilizer at this point in time, but you gave me some more insight to think about. If flourish doesn't work I may try Aquarium Co-Ops Easy Green. It has more in it than flourish does. But right now I will wait and see what flourish does for...

    New thoughts stocking 20 high

I'm not really interested in guppies right now. Had them before and got too attached. Kinda wanted to try something a bit different. Thanks though. Nice pic!

    New thoughts stocking 20 high

Anybody? Lol. I think I've scrapped the idea of a "colony" as I would probably just be over run. But I'm still considering only like, 7 male platies or a group of like 7 black neon with maybe 3 male platies. Are either of these an option?
  28. cowgirluntamed

    Planted tank ferts questions!

Maybe for you. All I have to do is grab one bottle, measure out a dose and squirt it in. Easy enough for me. To each their own!

    New thoughts stocking 20 high

It's just a regular 20 gallon high. 24x12x16h. Water on the harder side. PH 8.2, gh and kh around 12-13 drops. On a tetra test strip it was maybe 250 gh and 180 kh I think. Trying to stay towards hardier types of tetras but was wanting some color, hence the platies.

    Planted tank ferts questions!

Thanks Byron. I will continue the twice a week dosing for now. Before I did my water chage today I looked through my wisteria, and some of it looked like it might be coming back. The salvinia is doing amazing, the water lettuce not as well. But we'll see how it goes. It could still be adjusting...

    New thoughts stocking 20 high

Platies... I think they can work in a 20 gallon high if I remember some of my other posts here right. So I'm still thinking of future stocking options and trying to do my due diligence and research. If I only did platies...I think it was mentioned that 7 can work in a 20 gallon high? Or am I...

    Planted tank ferts questions!

I don't want to do dry ferts. Too complicated for what I want. Just an all in one is fine with me for the plants that I have. Thanks Byron. All I know is the white leds are 6500k. But I have then dimmed from full intensity. So far it has worked and I haven't had the algae at all except for on...

Geeze...I need to quit posting when I'm getting tired so I don't leave important things out! My light period is 8 hours. Planted tank ferts questions!

So, I have a 20 gallon high tank, running maybe 5 months give or take? Fluval aquasky light not to it's full brightness. It has crypt lutea, crypt wendtii, a couple of anubias, a dwarf aquarium lily, 2 kliener bar swords(not doing great), floating wisteria doing awful, and now some dwarf water...

    Collected flying insects for fish?

Just my two cents worth....I've been doing some research on bearded dragons and leopard geckos so one day I may have one and take care of it as well as it needs. A lot of the time, these are fed live insects. But from my research, they won't even get the best nutriton without the insects eating...

    Peppered Cory questions

They were being kept on gravel at Petsmart. Not a clue of how they were before they got there. When I got them in my tank they went absolutely nuts sifting through the sand, it was funny. I think the water is a little less hazy today so that's good. I don't think I've seen as much flashing today...

    Peppered Cory questions

Right now they are by themselves. But they will be going in with a gourami and tetras/rasboras later on. I will definitely keep an eye on that. Lol. Some put food in for the rest of the fish and then drop the rest of the food in and that can work. But either way, I will watch and make sure they...

    Peppered Cory questions

Yes it is paleatus. This is a quarantine tank until the 55 gets up. Hoping to work on that very very soon! And I knew from petsmart at least 6 weeks in quarantine if not longer (more than likely longer) and it will motivate me to get a move on to get it done! Lol. After your great explanation...
