What Fish Is The Best For My Tank?

It's an analogy (as it goes I don't have a cough, nor have I ever smoked).   You advised me to do the same thing as everyone else has been advising you. Treat the problem, not the symptoms.

Swim Bladder Or Whirling Disease? Or Something Else?

I would disagree with you somewhat, there, Byron, I wouldn't worry about nitrate at 30ppm unduly, especially given that my tap water has 40ppm in it (the legal maximum here in the UK is 50ppm)

Cherry Barb Swimming Like It's Drunk

What did you use to treat the ich? Assuming it's a standard medication, did you use a carbon filter to remove the medication once the course had been completed?   My thoughts are that if you didn't remove the medication, and it wasn't that long ago, the medication may have poisoned the cherry barb.

What Fish Is The Best For My Tank?

    New Aquarium. New Fishies

Don't see the image, but hey, no need. If you have a male in the same tank as females, they will be gravid pretty much the whole time.   Yes, it's perfectly OK to let them drop the fry in the main tank. That way, the vast majority of them will be predated upon by the other fish (including by the...

New Here! Can You Tell Me What Kind Of Fish This Is?

I would guess that you mean you just ran the tank empty for two weeks - that isn't cycling.   You need to be testing for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate every day, and taking corrective action when the levels get too high. Read this and then read this

    Plants And Fish Dying

First off, welcome to the forum.   When you say "water fine", what do you use to test the water, and what are the actual results you get (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH)? What fish do you have and what are their symptoms? It would also be good to know if you have hard or soft water.

    New Aquarium. New Fishies

JUst to say that we normally recommend a minimum of 6 for any shoaling species, which includes the corydoras. Other than that, I concur with everything Byron says.   The angelfish are too large for the tank anyway, even without other cichlids in there.   Assuming you have a male and a female...

New Here! Can You Tell Me What Kind Of Fish This Is?

It's quite a poor photo, but you've got two different species there that I can see.   Down the bottom is what looks to me like a Dwarf Gourami. If you have multiple males, they can and will fight each other, so that tallies up with what you are saying.   You also appear to have tiger barbs - the...

What Else Can I Put In Here

Unfortunately some LFS staff are not particularly knowledgeable - it is just a job to them, they don't necessarily have the passion, and therefore detailed knowledge of compatibility, that the members of this forum have. There is no requirement to pass any sort of test of fish knowledge before...

What Else Can I Put In Here

Keeping male and female fighters together is going to be fraught with danger. Fighters are called fighters because they fight. They live solitary lives, only briefly coming together to breed. Once they have bred, they separate off and go back to living solitary lives. You have 5 housed in a...

Tips On Breeding Fish (For Money)

Attibones has pretty much hit the nail on the head, there.   There is no such thing as a fish that is easy to breed that no-one else is breeding.   If a fish is easy to breed, then it's done on a commercial scale, and the LFS pay a few cents for each fish. They then sell them for a dollar or...

Assassin Snails, Trumpet Snails And Freshwater Clams

I concur that assassins will eat trumpet snails.   From what I've read (and I have no actual experience of them) clams don't pose a threat to plants or other livestock. They just don't tend to do that well - they are filter feeders, if I remember correctly, so they rely on food coming to them...

My Fish Keep Dying I Don't Know Why ?

Peeps, when Fluttermoth asked you for the actual numbers of your water tests, she did actually want you to post the actual results, the actual level of ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH, and indeed KH if you have ever tested that. Your idea of "ok" might be very different to hers and mine.   Just...

Want A Schooling Fish For A 20 Gal Long With Cherry Shrimp

FIsh which are naturally from low pH areas can survive quite happily in high pH, but generally not the other way around.     WCMMs and zebra danios both like much cooler tanks, and, as the OP has already said, they need much longer tanks than he has.     Perhaps your water company is using CO2...

    What Is Meant By Glofish?

They are genetically modified, not chemically. This isn't cruel, it doesn't shorten their life span, it doesn't hinder their growth. It isn't done to a living thing, it was originally done to a fish egg, and now the modified gene is "locked in", they reproduce normally, and the offspring have...

    Assassin Coitus

They could well be mating, it is pretty common.   It will be quite some time before the babies appear - once they hatch, they bury themselves in the substrate for some time befoire emerging. They take around 18 months, sometimes longer to reach full adult size.

    What Killed My Betta Fish?

Hi Marcel, welcome to the forum.   I think you are right, in that it was almost certainly ammonia poisoning that killed your fish, the problem being made far worse by living in such a tiny tank.
