Second problem ever two weeks a fish dies. Water fine nothing wrong that I can tell

Third i have algae problems

So that is why I joined this plz help

First off, welcome to the forum.

When you say "water fine", what do you use to test the water, and what are the actual results you get (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH)? What fish do you have and what are their symptoms? It would also be good to know if you have hard or soft water.

Hi,

I'm new to this too, so can't offer much advice, but I do know that you will need to give more information so that more experienced members can help diagnose your problems.

They will want to know:

  • what type of fish, and how many, are in your tank?
  • you say your water is fine, but have you tested it recently? what were the numbers for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate?  do you use the strip tests or a liquid test kit?
  • do you have soft or hard water?
  • how often do you change the water in your tank?
  • have there been any recent additions to the tank (new plants, new fish, new decorations)?
  • do you know the type of algae? what exactly is the problem? where is the algae?  what type of lighting do you have?  how long is the lighting on for?

Sorry that I can't help you much, and I hope I don't sound negative or harsh, but if you can provide the answer to the things I've listed above then it will make it easier for other members to help you.

Good Luck! you've definitely come to the right place for help! :)

If you have Algie problems it is usually a sign that you have a problem with your water parameters or the lighting or both. As the previous aquarists commented knowing all the information will really help.

I use a API liquid test for ammonia 0.1ppm for PH it is test strips, it is at at like 5.8 ppm.thats how it comes out the tap.
Don't know my water hardness sorry.50% water change a week. The fish just die every now and again no symptoms.
With the algae it is green and is on my rocks i changed the light to a timer for 9h a day. And no they are not new thing in the tank
Thank

Do you have a test kit for nitrite and nitrate? Do you ever mess with your filter media? If so, how?

What fish do you have? If you don't know what they are you can post pics and someone should be able to ID them for you. How do you acclimate them? What do you feed them and how often?

What sort of lighting do you have?

I think the nitrite and nitrate is in the same test as Ammonia?
No I do not mess with the media
The fish i have alive is 1 smallish angle fish, 1 blue ram, 2 rummy nose tetras, 2 neons and 1 cory cat
It won't matter how I acclimate them they have been in the tank for weeks/months
They get feed flakes every night
The light is a 36wat light dont know any more than that sorry
Thanks

What do you mean by the nitrite and nitrate is in the same test as ammonia.?

Sorry stuffed that up will get a nitrate and nitrite test tonight and will post what happens
Sorry I am young and inexperienced
Thanks :)

I'm betting it has plenty to do with your stocking. Angels eat neons as they get larger, so probably the angels have been stressing the neons to death. Ram could be worrying the cory cat, but corydoras need to have large groups (like the rummynose tetras and the neons), so stress from being kept in insufficient numbers is a contributing factor. You've got several fish who don't have any business in your small tank either.

What fish have died, and how many of each species have died?

I have had one ram die, 1 neon, 3 bristlenose catfish
And all the java furn.
The angle is small and not agresive at all it does not even think about the neons
Thanks

You need to check the ammonia too, don't forget that.

Did you manage to carry out the tests you said you were going to?

The Angel WILL become a problem when it grows large (if it survives).
If the Java Fern died there is something really wrong as it one of the easiest plants to grow.

I went down to the pet shop and the bloke gave me some KH powder and some plant food stuff he told me to do that and bring him a water sample.

So thanks for all the help but I sould be all good now thank again :)
