    Lead weights

This has been brought up many times, but I think most "lead" weights made for aquarium use are actually these zinc/magnesium strips. https://buceplant.com/products/lead-plant-weights

    Awful hospital tank

Saying something about it to the hospital staff might be helpful. Whatever company that maintains it (and whoever hired them) should know.

Tips on keeping valisneria and ludwigia planted?

You could also try weights such as in the link below. I have some angelfish that like to tug on plants sometimes and though they sometimes strip the leaves, they haven't uprooted anything. https://buceplant.com/products/lead-plant-weights And we've covered this in other threads but these...

How much do you pay for fish?

$2.50 for neons at my LFS. They’ll sell them at a discounted price for customers who want 20+.

Debate topic : do fish have emotions?

Well Stevie Wonder isn’t God no matter the logic. But that man’s musical output around 1971-1973 got close.

Some of my fry going missing?

I think it is possible they’d get sucked that filter looking at an image of the a131. It seems like it’d be a good idea to cover the inlet with a fine mesh.

I will make it three cats in a row thus far. This is a phone pic of Sirius, our cat (named after the dog star :)). A few years ago a local elderly man who had 20+ cats passed away and our animal shelter did their best to find homes, we ended up adopting this domestic shorthair who appears to...

    I'm failing

Both things are true IMO. I see textbook Ich on the Hatchetfish and I don’t know what the neons have. Fungus, bacterial infection? We know nothing about water parameters.

    I'm failing

I believe you're right, sir. I'm just now noticing the neon tetra pic. To me this does not look like ich and I move toward thinking there may be a water quality issue. This is why @itiwhetu asked for water parameters in post #3.

    I'm failing

Unless you have a trusted local fish store, you really have to quarantine as FranciscoB mentioned. The Hatchetfish definitely looks like it came with a free case of Ich. Petco (and other pet chains) sell fish in this state often, at least where I live, and the spots aren’t yet visible at...

Who sits and just watches their tank for extended periods?

One reason I got back into fish keeping was for my own mental health and stress level. I feel it may also be improving my sleep too. It stands to reason I may sleep better if my stress and heart rate are lowered. Maybe even lowered blood pressure. I've not tested that. :) My pattern is every...

    Clown Loach growth rate?

I find it interesting how they feed, they seem genetically built to be bottom feeders, and while they’ll also skim leaves and rocks and driftwood, they regularly swim upside down at the water’s surface too, to snatch flakes, pellets, dried worms, etc. They’ll swim and position themselves in any...

    Clown Loach growth rate?

My concern originally was that it may stunt their growth being in this tank, but it doesn't seem to be the case based on what I've read, including the info shared in this thread.

    Clown Loach growth rate?

I've recently seen some crazy asking prices for really big loaches. Hundreds of dollars. I thought I'd made a mistake in stocking my tank with them due to their eventual growth, but it seems one can keep them for years before having to re-home/sell them due to size. Mine are about 1-1/2" and...

    Could a dream come true?

You might try illustrating to your folks what a great deal it is to get the tank anyway. A solution to your lighting can come later and/or you save up for it. Or as Wills mentioned, you may adapt your light to work. $25 for a 45L is too good to pass up. It's financially irresponsible to do...

    A Fish Called Wanda

Wow it’s been awhile. I remember Kevin Kline famously claimed he’d eat the actual fish out of the tank for the torture scene with Ken (Michael Palin’s character), but the film crew had him eat “fish” made of Jell-O.

I got a new aquarium cleaner and I’m kinda afraid of it

Are you using a faucet? Any strong flow, even if it initially comes from your faucet, blows out the all trapped air in the hose. Once that’s done you can turn the faucet off and let gravity work.
