Some of my fry going missing?

Okay so my convict fry started slowly dwindling with numbers and I started wondering why. All water parameters were fine and nothing else changed. I figured perhaps they could be sucked in by the filter? It’s a marina a 131 internal filter.

Could this suck in the fry? I’ve ordered a sponge filter just in case but just wondering if this is the issue

Also I’m running a interpet airvolution 1 air pump with air stone, could this kill the fry?

I think it is possible they’d get sucked that filter looking at an image of the a131. It seems like it’d be a good idea to cover the inlet with a fine mesh.

Okay I’ll try and find something, the filter is situated at the top of the water, the water being about 30cm deep so they would be quite far away from it
