    First Aquarium! Any thoughts

Agreed. I haven't personally had either but I've heard that duckweed grows really fast

Aww I'm sorry! I wish you good luck though

How to tell if a bettas spine is twisted?

This picture kind of captures the weird bump in his stomach. I got another one of him bending but that was just him turning away from the camera You can also kind of see what I mean about the scar on his face and his reddish coming in

How to tell if a bettas spine is twisted?

I was just looking at him closer and I've noticed other things off about him -he has red scar looking things on either side of his face, though they're not oddly placed and the one on his right is bigger. These may be old as his face closer to his gills have always been oddly textured, I hope...

How to tell if a bettas spine is twisted?

Sometimes I'll notice my betta, Hank, is resting oddly or he's bumpy in weird places, and sometimes he bends in a z shape even when he's not getting ready to jump. He's pretty active and I don't really think he's visibly sick, but I am kind of worried. He has this slight twist to his tail that...

    Hank :D

Hank doesn't really know what to think of my fingers actually in the water yet, but he's not afraid of them. Every single meal so far has come from tweezers so he definitely has a positive relationship with those. I think on his end it was boosted because I fed him bloodworms while he was...

    Hank :D

Hank does too, there's nowhere he'll be in the tank that he won't come for tweezers unless it's feeding time and he's got his back turned like a dummy. I'm considering teaching him more tricks since he already follows my fingers, jumps, and chases the tweezers cross tank. He's a surprisingly...

Alright thank you. We got this bulb at a lower watt because I wasn't sure whether or not the light would heat up the tank. It is orange rather than the white lights we have in the rest of the house, so I'll have to look for our current bulbs packages to see what they have. If I leave this one...

    Hank :D

Gosh absolutely. Except he's so stubborn sometimes! I put a pinch in with my tweezers today to see how he feels about not being hand fed every piece. He ate all the big ones and then looked up expectantly at me for more even though there were still pieces! Luckily I could pretend I was putting...

I completely agree, he's a great little wonderfish. Hearty eater and a talented swimmer for sure!

The package for my lights only say 390 lumens, but the numbers you're listing are really high up. Are those numbers over a period of exposure, or am I reading this wrong? Thank you for your patience too I appreciate it

    Pretty angry right now...

Uh oh, hopefully your cat won't do it again!

My current bulb is 40 watts I believe, though when it says it uses 29w that means energy consumption right?

    Hank :D

I figured out why Hank was swimming so much all the time. The current from the filter output was constantly pulling at him so he was always moving to keep himself in place. My filter has an option to pull a wall up to lessen the flow (except I haven't gotten the top back on it yet) and his...

    Plant care recs

The tank was old and free from a family friend so unfortunately the tank light doesn't work. My room light is on usually from 10 am to 9/10 pm and I'll turn the lamp on about 5-10 minutes while I sit with it. I'm not really sure if timers can be attached to desk lamps, but if they can I can look...

    Plant care recs

The bulbs in my lamp put out 390 lumens but it's only on for an hour max during the day. The light in my room is slightly less bright but the lid on my tank is almost directly between them so it gets in the way. The light intensity really makes sense as it started going downhill when my lights...

I deeply appreciate the info on anubias! These are the pictures of my plant, I'm not sure what it is but I like it and was hoping it would grow. It used to be pretty upright but after it started browning it got droopy and spread out. It may be because my gravel has no nutrients

That's probably why my current leafy plant is dying, it wasn't in water until I put it in my tank and then started losing its health after a bit

    Bubble after water addition?

This is probably my stupidest question yet, asking if bubbles belong in water I had a bucket of water treated with seachem prime sitting in a warm bath for a couple hours as the heater I had in it overnight didn't work. The water has sat in the bucket for maybe 24-30 hours. I just added the...

    First Aquarium! Any thoughts

I'd recommend looking into it, since different plants also have different needs. I hear root tabs are better for plants that are root feeders, while liquid fertilizer can help others. I'm always going to recommend Anubias since they get big and leafy and I believe they're low maintenance.

That's true. I worry about trimming tools as Hank is excessively curious and I have no doubt he would swim up to them to investigate. I don't want him to get snipped on accident :/

    First Aquarium! Any thoughts

Personally, I don't think you could go wrong with more plants. Live, as they are beneficial to your tank and fun for your fish to play in. I would also keep the water level a little higher to give your fish more room to swim. Possibly more hardscape, though it's optional to what you personally...

I am planning a complete renovation of my 10 gallon betta tank, and I would love both care recommendations as well as which sites are trustworthy when doing my research on the plants individual needs. My current list is as follows -Anubias (x1 or 2 I really like them) -Anubias nano (x1) -Amazon...

    Should I move my heater?

I want to add water to my tank as the waterline has gone down a lot from evaporation, but I'm also cycling it with safestart. I know that every instruction says not to do a water change, and that I've been told a lot that seachem prime (my dechlorinator) could affect the safestart. I left a...

    Salvinia... grows!

He's doing awesome! He's very active, he's eating everything I give to him, and his color change left him dark and gorgeous! He'll be getting a tank reno soon, where I'm hoping to introduce some salvinia... ;)
