i wouldn't use anything that is designed for use outside of an aquarium. It might release chemicals into the water that may be harmful to fish.

if you haven't ordered yet, may i recommend you take a look at the Fluval Duo Deep 1200, and use the juwel stand with it. This may be easier as they dont have anything fixed into them in the first place, and can be much easier to upgrade (if needed) Just a thought. sf

it might be ok, aslong as you can stand the smell, and you change all the water...twice...maybe even three or four times(just to make sure) before adding fish.

technically we dont have Walmart's in the UK, but we do have Asda which is part of the Walmart group. but Asda dont sell animals.

as i am currenty experiencing, damn phosphates :angry: i had 3 plants in my tank and they couldn't control it, so i've just added 3 more. Is it normal for me to have phosphates in my tap water? :crazy:

I know that high phosphates contribute to algae growth, but do plants naturally use phosphates aswell?

i have a gravel substrate, and my filter is a fluval 4+ with the normal foam pads (no carbon material or anything like that)

i have a spare tank that i use for water changes, and i tested the water in there (which has been there a few days) and that had a ph of 7.6

nope, nothing at the moment, just plants.

my ph has risen from 7.6 to 8.8+ (7.6 is tap water ph) what could cause this? i have no fish at the moment, and have recently done a large water change. oh, and i have a few live plants.

smithrc, i think you calculations are a bit wrong. if the 1000 is 30 (us) gallons that makes it about 25 (uk) gallons, and i have the deep version of it (only 5cm deeper) which is 40 (uk) gallons.
