If - here I emphasize if - I'm right saying : 1 mature male, 2 immature males or dominated matures, 1 mature female, you'll have to monitor the 2 immature/fominated as you could encounter squabbles/fights between the 3 males. Who sold you these rams ?

So.... it might be 3 males (1 mature, 2 immatures) and 1 female (any pinkish patch) ? The 2 that have "bonded" would be 1 mature male and the supposed female.

    Schooling fish options...

Those are soft acidic wather fishes : pH 6 to 7 - GH KH below 8 - Temp. 25-26°C. Can you provide them, and to others too, these parameters ? These 3 need a jungle including floatings, many hiding places, and dim light to thive. Considering plants you noted above they are very insufficient. In...

    Platy bullies

If you see this organ on a female with a very round/protruding belly, it means that egg/fry laying is imminent or just done.

Ovipositer is a tiny organ tube-like that females use to lay their fry.

Trying to get a better handle on fish care

Hey :) Fish care starts with the respect of the life conditions fishes require, being : water parameters, temp., school/shoal behavior or on its own (alone) behavior, swimming style, swimming area, feeding preferences, etc etc. You'll have to test your tap/source water to know to what fish it is...

    Lamprologus ocellatus

NeoLamprologus multifasciatus is beautiful too. Its fav shell is Neothauma tanganiycense also. Same parameters. If I remember well, no Chironomus plumosus aka Tipula annularis aka earthworm as they tend to poison fish living in hard and alkaline water like Tangafish. You should prefer feed them...

What is 100 ppm ? Hardness/GH ? If yes, 100 ppm = 5.60 °GH. That is rather soft. What to add with Tiger Barbs

That is to say in numbers ? Those tiger barb, bristle pleco, corycats, black skirt tetras prefer a soft acidic water and show better colouration in a well-decorated set-up. The addition of floating or overhanging vegetation and driftwood roots or branches also is appreciated. They are...

    Lamprologus ocellatus

Hey :) 40 gal. seems ok to me but not below : it is a territorial fish that will defend its shell and the small territory around it vehemently. Their favourite shell is Neothauma's. Needs pH 8-8.5 - GH 16-20 - KH 8-15
