I would not recommend goldfish to a beginner unless they are willing to pony up the dough it takes to properly raise them, goldfish are quite expensive to keep, especially if you want to keep more than one, they are very messy fish and require a far more active maintenance schedule than most...

I had a phantom pregnancy once due to my dogs being too curious about the rabbit... always sucks to have that happen.

As they have said, your media should be ok... and please do get that API master tester... having accurate readings is very important. ;)

As long as the fish you keep aren't burrowing fish, then having a bare bottom tank shouldn't be a problem at all, as long as you provide lot of hiding places for your betta. I love bare bottom tanks, WAY easier to clean, and you can make them look pretty with simplicity.

I feel that all fish have different personalities, in there own little unique way... while their overall demeanor may be the same, there personalities can be quite different. Some species show more personality than others... I've never had corys, but I've kept a few other fish, goldfish...

Just did another test:   Ammonia: 0.25ppm Nitrite: 0ppm Nitrate 5.0ppm   (I'm thinking that yesterday it was in between 0.25ppm and 0.50ppm as it was a darker shade of light green, although not quite the green of 0.50ppm. Today it is much lighter and an undeniable match to 0.25ppm)

I took it outside in the sunlight and also in the brightness of my bathroom, definitely read 0.25ppm, I'm anal when it comes to things like that... heh.   ... and also, congrats on your human fry! ;)

(cloudy water actually isn't uncommon during a mini cycle) What happened was that I removed the gravel completely (same day I cleaned the filter housing), and then did a whole bunch of really huge water changes to clear up the water, I mean, BIG water changes, 50% one day, 50% the next and a 74%...

The stocking is most definitely a problem... some of these fish are not compatible as tank mates, and some need better groupings. What Blondielovesfish said!

I don't believe it was only removing my gravel, as I have done this more than once in the past without any side effects whatsoever... I feel it was the double whammy of not only removing my gravel. but also scrubbing the housing during the same water change, the two combined was too much. There...

I have a bare bottom tank, so it's not the substrate. ;) I wonder if it could have been not only cleaning my housing, but removing my gravel on the same day, just racking my brain to try to figure out why this is happening.   Thank you for the encouragement, I'll be keeping on top of my water...

I left my media in a bucket full of dirty tank water when I scrubbed my housing, put everything back together after that, and by the next morning my tank was cloudy... and it's already been a couple days... so idk. see specs in my post above.

No, over feeding shouldn't be an issue, let it ride. Fat with milk is a good thing :). That is quite a small litter! I don't recall any of ours having any less than 4. Are you sure she only gave birth to 1 and didn't eat the others? If she's new to breeding, then it's possible.. although...

They can actually grow to 1 1/2 inches, and yes, are very nippy and highly territorial.

After we groomed our rabbits, specifically our English Angoras, we'd sell their fur for a good price! One of the perks of owning a long haired rabbit! We had people who would even purchase our lop fur as well.
