Hi,

I've a 200 litre tropical tank with a Aquaone internal filter. Tank is 6 months old, cycled before adding fish, and I do weekly gravel cleaning and a 10% water change.

My inhabitants consist of:
5 harlequin rasboras
4 neon tetras
3 platys
4 blue guppys
1 clown loach
2 female fighters
2 red dwarf gouramis
4 rainbow fish
2 black ghost knifes
10 tropical frogs

A week ago I noticed one of my guppys has a torn tail, and another has darkening edges to the tail. Could this be tail rot? Everyone else in the tank looks fine.

Any advice?

I'm sorry but your tank stocking is going to end terribly.

One of the fish/frogs are probably nipping your guppies fins, as long as the bully is delt with and the tank has lots of fresh, clean water the tail should (hopefully) heal without infection.

Now, on to your stocking....

The Harlequin's and Neon's need schools of 6+
The Clown loach needs a tank of at least 380 Litres.
The 2 female fighters will most likely fight eachother, they could also be a main suspect of the guppies torn fins.
The gourami's, unless both female will fight, could be another suspect for the guppie's torn fins.
The Rainbow fish need a school of at least 6 and depending on the species may or may not be suitable for your tank.
The Black Ghost Knife fish will fight eachother and a single one needs a tank of at least 500 litres.
The Frogs, depending on species may or may not be suitable for your tank.

As mentioned above, the fighters or gourami's may be your prime suspects to the guppies torn fins.

??? Mmmmmm

9 months and everyone is living happily together!

Good to know they are fine.

I can almost guarantee that there will be problems though.

The main problems IMO will be the Black Ghost Knife fish and the Clown Loaches who will become stunted if you do not give them a bigger tank. :/

yea and most likely there was some problems because i highly doubt that in a tank that size with that stocking that something bad did not happen.

The stocking is most definitely a problem... some of these fish are not compatible as tank mates, and some need better groupings. What Blondielovesfish said!
