    Identity of Mystery Fish.....

After looking through my fish books many a time, I have finally figured out my mystery fish. It's a Bengal Danio. :D Since I discovered it's a shoaling fish, I will be trying to get her some tankmates. Just wanted to thank all who tried even though it was I who ultimately discovered the...

Power went out for 5 hours!!

I don't think it will affect it that much. If the water is cloudy, that might just be the bacteria bloom. Valerie

sorry about my last rabbit post

I'd say you should take him to the vet. There's something wrong internally if he won't eat and doesn't poo. Valerie

    Part of platy pregnancy?

Yeah, she might just be defensive. Especially if it's soon for her to give birth. I'd say that's probably where she's going to have her babies. Valerie

    32 gal tank awaiting fish

To cycle a tank without fish, you can add fish food or if you have a mature tank, take some gravel from the older tank and put it in the new tank. impur-I was reading up on cycling and read that adding pure ammonia is extremely dangerous and should not be used. Valerie

    My fish are so smart

It's really cool that fish memorize your face and know that whenever you come up to the glass it's time for food. :D Valerie

    White substance around tank top

I had this sort of thing happen with my old tank. I still don't know what it was. What I do now, is I take my dish towels that I use for the tank and just make sure that no water collects above the water surface. Stop it before it comes. :) I would just clean it off and try to keep it away...

I am moving this weekend and am scared to death...

If you are worried about them getting too hot in the totes, you can put them in a shady spot or a place with no sun and put some newspaper or something around them. If they fit, put them in a icebox that you use to hold drinks in. Valerie

    Small tank

Well, there's always a chance he could. But that's why you have to search for one that has a good temperment. Shelled food is just your good ol' common snail. :) Valerie

    Question Please help

About your second question, it sounds like it could be velvet or even maybe skin slime. But, it is probably velvet. Do you notice any yellow-gold coloring on them? To treat velvet, you administer a proprietary treatment and shade the tank. But I would worry about treating fry, since they are...

    Stop Growing??

There's a chance that he will stop growing, but I think the question is that do you want to do that to the fish? The general rule for freshwater tanks is 1 inch of fish for each gallon. I think that if you have your heart set on a kissing gourami, you should upgrade your tank to allow a...

Well, the first mystery fish looks like a black convict cichlid. The second fish looks like Electric Yellow Labidochromis. That would be my guess. :) nice tank, Valerie

Guppies are livebearers, so they give birth to live babies that are able to swim and hide. Valerie :)

    Stuff growing in my tank

Sounds like a case of the algae. If you want to get rid of it the natural way, check to see if the tank is getting any excessive light and then go and buy an algae eating fish. You can get mollies, plecos or something like that. Good luck, Valerie :)

    Ich

I have a Penguin Bio-wheel 175 and considering how the cartridge is made, I can see how getting the carbon out and leaving the filter in would be troublesome. I would take cfc's advice and try to fit some foam in as a temp. I agree with the water changes, also. Daily water changes could also...

    Puppy woes

What you do is place the pill inside some peanut butter and shove your finger down their mouth. :X But obviously, when your dog is throwing up it's kind of stupid to put peanut butter in their mouth. But he was suprisingly okay with the pill by itself. My Golden Retriever, Buster, is a...

Well, do you really expect a rep from a major fish company to say how hard, time consuming and expensive keeping fish are? no! All they want to do is sell a product. And what do all people like...simple, easy solutions. So, of course she's going to say fish keeping is idiot-proof and...
