    feeding

I now feed my fish 2 times a day. But then again, I have a crayfish to pick up every bit of food that falls. I agree with the 3 minute rule. Valerie

    Red faeces

If it's intestinal worms, the fish will look very fat and you might even be able to see the worm coming out of the vent. :X Valerie

    Read This YOu will Laugh!

I'm not suprised he ate all of the food. That stuff is light as air. You have to eat a lot to get anything in your stomach. Valerie

    My brilliant doggie!

If you really want a dog or something, just get it while your husband is gone. Then, when he comes back, say you rescued him from the pound and they were going to put him down. Trust me, his heart will melt. ;) Valerie

    Male Molly chasing male Sordtail?

 I really doubt it. They're probably just deciding who gets what territory. Unless they start to seriously injure each other, just let them decide where each one stands. Valerie

    Well, I moved the Pleco

I transfered my last fish today to their new tank. I had this whole thing planned out. Put the net over his head, grab the tail. Simple, right? Wrong! I had successfully gotten his head inside the net, but wasn't expecting the razor sharp spines awaiting my hand on his tail. Not only...

    Lost a fish

Did you check the water quality recently? Maybe there was a spike in the water and he couldn't handle it. That fuzz sounds like it happened after death. Usually bacteria starting to decompose. Valerie

    Your Biggest Mistakes...

I had a 10 gallon aquarium left over from when I had two toads. (just so you know where the tank came from) I saw this gorgeous betta at petsmart and really wanted it. So, I got all of the stuff I needed for a tank and the betta. My second mistake, even though I didn't know about it, was that...

Do I really need to feed them

Personally, I like to keep a little extra space for the fish and not go to the maximum because fish grow and it might get cramped when they're all grown up. But I guess do what you want to do. :/ Valerie

If all else fails and you need to use a chemical, Kordon Amquel Plus is the best water conditioner for getting rid of any bad water qualities. Valerie

    Stink.

Check to see if there's any nasty algae hiding around your tank. Algae is No. 1 for causing a nasty smell. Valerie

    Transparent Skull on Ryukin?

Hole in the head is caused by a parasite that comes out when the fish is stressed or has poor enviroment. They will also have light and stringy feces. Is it possible that the color could be disappearing because of poor diet? Valerie

    how to sex fry

I don't even try to sex them until they get older. They just move too quickly. I just look for the pointed fin. If they have it, they're male, if not they're female. Valerie

Where can I find a Bengal Danio?

Hey all, I've been calling around to every fish store near me and I can't find the fish I need to get! I'm getting pretty exhausted and tired of calling around. I was wondering if anyone knew of some online fish companies in the U.S. that ship fish to you. Any help would be greatly...

    my new 5 footer

Nice tank. I like all of the pottery. If you want to reduce the blur on the photo, find a steady surface like a coffee table or a tripod, if you have one. Set the camera down and just press the shutter release. Voila, no blur. :) If you can't find a steady surface, make yourself a...

    gourami with an owie

I'd think he probably got in a fight with the other gourami or maybe the shark. You're going to have to keep a watchful eye on that wound so that it doesn't get infected. Valerie

fish laying on gravel and breathing heavily

If you don't have any source of air besides the filter bubbles, I'd say you need to go out and buy an air bubbler like this . I'm sure there's one that will fit in your tank. Valerie

how long till she has her fry ;D

That guppy does look pretty plump. You can tell if a guppy is pregnant by trying to find the black gravid spot by her vent. I know that Mollies are 5-7 weeks in pregnancy, so I would think that guppies would be around the same time table. good luck, Valerie

Do I really need to feed them

I don't think you're pushing the maximum load, you're exceeding it. That many fish is going to be a problem. The rule is 1 inch of fish per gallon. Even the 10 gallon is going to be pushing it. To answer your first question, yes you do need to feed them algae pellets. They also love...

    Shimmy in Black Mollies

I'm kind of concerned about how often you're doing the water changes. 3 times a week seems like a lot. Is there a chance they could just be stressed by all of the commotion? :/ Valerie
