two of my newbies from bettaboys arrived with quite big bellys. In their pictures their bellys were big too. I'm thinking they are egg bound. What should I do? Here's some pics of one of them:

I had the same problem. A male is more torpedo shaped, has the noticable beard. Females have a white egg sopt underneath between the ventricles. can you put a pic on here?

There are sooooo many different colours and combinations and tail types. There are also metallic Bettas I suppose it boild down to what you like, I'm a girl girl so I love the orange, pinks, purple's stuff like that. Are you just gonna go for one in your local shop or buy an imported one online?

Well I came back with another female Betta from pets at home. I made sure it was female this time using my knowledge gained from on here abouth the torpedo shape, egg spot and beard. I was there is the shop teaching them all about Bettas lol.

Yeah it comes out there. Fish poo also looks different depending what they've been fed. I just got some new Bettas and one had the weirdest big old orange poop I've ever seen lol

You really need a test kit that way you can know what water changes you need to do. You said you're doing small changes at the moment, if there is amonia or nitrite present you'll need to do bigger changes depending on how much is there. 75% at least

I just discovered her dead at the bottom of the tank!!!!! What the hell happened? She was nipped on the fins and her fins were split. I didn't see fighting, last I saw her she was resting at the top of the tank on a plant.

Wow he's totally changed!

Substrate doesn't matter for a betta. They loave loads of plants to rest on and lots of cover. Good tank mates are cardinal tertras, neons, cory, platy, rasboras, pitbull plec, snails.

The best thing you can do is keep his water clean and buy some indian aalmond leaf to put in the tank. read up on the benefits, they are amazing for things like this. I'm using them now to aid my Bettas fins grow back after finrot.

Yeah we all buy ours online from people who breed and import them. KG Bettas, Bettaboys, BettaSplendens are all good sites that we use.

It's not really extra just for a betta, you need to test all fish tanks on a regular basis. You can buy a small filter that will stick to the inside with suction cups just like the heater will. But you will have to fish in cycle your tank then. I would suggest a liquid test kit rather than the...

Yes they recommened at the least 5 females.

Yes you need to be doing that change weekly not monthly. I suspect that has caused problem. Do a big clean and water change at least 50% and get yourself a test kit and test amonia and nitrite right away.

Does it have a filter? Did your old tank have a filter? If so changing over all the old water would make no difference it's the filter media you need to change over or the tank won't be cycled. He must have a heater to keep the water at the right temp. You need to get a small heater and set it...

The nw red ggirls tail fin is split down in two places. Is this normal when new girls are introduced? Will they repair themselv go back to normal? She had lovely fins yesterday :(

Thanks guys. The only fish he's chased is the tiny betta i got. That tiny one has an egg spot which I noticed today but this one we're not sure on doesn't. Should he/she be showing one by now? I'll leave it in for now and see what happens.
