Can Bettas Live A Healthy Life On Only Tetrabits Pellets?

You can also grow some maggots too. Another good food source is hatching your own brine shrimp. :D

Anybody Feed Their Bettas Fly Larvae?

My Cambodian betta stopped eating betta flakes and hikari gold so I decided to grow some fly larvae (maggots) to feed him. It turns out he LOVES them! Anybody feed their bettas fly or mosquito larvae? :D

    Hubby Bought Me A Betta!

It really depends on the size of your tank and the personality of the betta. If you have enough room the guarami and betta will not attack ech other. The betta might flare at the guarami if it encroaches on its territory but it rarely actually strikes. My sister has a few male dwarf guaramis and...

I Have Lost My First Fish...

It is not small when talking about the amount of meat the small omnivorous fish would have to eat in less than 18 hours. My sister had a cherry barb die awhile back and none of the fish even touched it. The tiger barbs don't nip at the fins of guppies in my sister's tank. All of the fish in her...

Just Realized Red Sea Nano Filter And Azoo Palm Filter Are The Same

Yeah the GPH specs looked very similar as are the flow control knobs. I was only able to confirm they are identical when I got the Azoo and compared it to my Red Sea unit. Anyway thanks for the tip about using the aquaclear sponge, I may go that route.. :) Initially I thought the black coarse...

She doesn't have any bottom feeders except a few small ghost shrimp. All the other fish are guppies, platies, gouramis, danios, minnows, and small barbs.

Fishless Cycling With Bio Spira - Setup Correct?

Huh? The Nitrites are barely there, also he/she is doing a fishless cycle. Make sure your biowheel is spinning. Is it spinning around 1 revolution per sec?

    Lights

Unless he's going to be keeping coral, a shop light will work too. It just won't look very pretty because you need a high color temperature saltwater bulb to enhance fish colors.

I Have Lost My First Fish...

My sister had a tiger barb disappear overnight and she still cannot find it. I told her it probably jumped out and the cat ate it because there is no way the community fish which is fed well would eat it up in a single day. It was a pretty big tiger barb about 1 inch.

    What Substrate Would You Have?

IMO pure sand only for saltwater tanks. Black gravel looks great but is unatural unless it's black sand for saltwater. For freshwater I think a mixture of sand and fine and coarse gravel is best in 60%, 30%, and 10% ratios respectively.

    Sand Bottom Vs. Gravel

    Water Changes

You should try not to introduce so many fish at one time without a ammonia and nitrite detoxifier because every time you do, the tank will go through a minicycle. I always use ammonia and nitrite detoxifier when I want to add a lot of fish at one time, but then I also use a realtime ammonia...

    Water Changes

Looks like your biofilter is in the process of catching up to the new bioload from the cories you introduced. It's going through a minicycle. If your Nitrite continue to climb higher than the 1ppm then do a small water change.

Fishless Cycling With Bio Spira - Setup Correct?

I don't think the bacteria have died unless the pH is really low or there's not enough O2. What kind of a filter are you running?
  18. P

    Water Changes

In a fully cycled tank your ammonia should be zero. Anyway keep doing what you're currently doing. How often do you test for ammonia? Do you remember your previous ammonia reading? How long has the tank been running? Did you add any new fish recently?

What you're doing is fine just make sure you treat the water for chlorine etc. What is your curorent Nitrate level?

At A Loss As To What To Do!

Does your tank get "direct" sunlight? What kind of light are you using? Wattage and time on per day? What is the size of you tank? What is your Nitrate level? As to the snails you can use any fish medication that has copper sulfate, but you have to remove your shrimp. Also make sure you remove...

    White Spot

If it is ICH you will likely have to treat the whole tank for a week or two because there will likely be a lot of them floating around and on the bottom of the tank which will reinfect your fish. You also might want to read this thread first. http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=128879

    Gloss Paint Fumes

If you can try to find eco friendly paint, if not open all the windows and use a fan placed next to a big window blowing air to the OUTSIDE. Don't turn on the oscillating function on the fan, just keep it pointed to the outside so it can suck the fumes out the window. This is more effective if...

    Silly Water And Tubing Question.

Haha GREAT advice!! I've never even thought about that. :good: Oh one other thing I forgot to mention. Most submersible pumps cannot be run dry so when you see the level of water inside the bucket getting low, turn off the pump and refill it with clean water then turn the pump back on. Keep...

    Stalled Fishless Cycling

Try adding some more ammonia to around 6ppm and see if it goes back down to 4. Has your temperature changed? Do you have a heater? Temp, pH, an ammonia are all interrelated.

    Stalled Fishless Cycling

I assumed your tank didn't have anything in it. Did you presoak the driftwood? If the water is too acidic it will kill your bio filter AND fish. If you haven't presoaked the driftwood or boiled it, it will continue to leech out tannic acid which will lower your pH. Anyway IIRC at a lower pH...

    Tank Repair Question

I would never use a quarter inch of styrofoam to support a long glass tank... Reason is it allows too much uneven compression.

    Chlorine Doesn't Kill Bettas?

Well if you know your tap only contains chlorine, letting it sit and evaporate for a few hours usually works too. If your tap contains chloramines then it's a different story. Chlloramines affect fish differently than chlorine. IIRC it's absorbed into their blood stream. Of course if your tap...

Just Realized Red Sea Nano Filter And Azoo Palm Filter Are The Same

For anyone who wants a small HOB filter for a tank smaller than 3 gallons these two filters are exactly the same. I got the Azoo unit for half the price of the Red Sea unit online for $6. For those who are using either of these filters, is the black corse sponge carbon impregnated? Or is it...

    My 2.5 Gallon Planted Tank.

You have to remember that I disabled one of the two 9W bulbs so I'm only using 9W total. It's on around 12 hours a day. It is true that the fixture itself gets pretty hot but that is by design as the aluminum chassis serves as a heatsink to dissiplate the heat. In other designs you would need a...
