    Cloudy/Greenish water

Ok, I've been trying to solve this problem forever, to no avail. I even did a huge water change yesterday, and it's still ugly. It's an opaque green/white cloudiness... Could it be that the filters need changing? What steps can I take to try to correct it otherwise? Sorry, I have no parameters...

    Puppy woes

Pills. Right.. here we go. I work at a dog kennel (in other words, if it comes to pilling, I'm a seasoned veteran!) hehe. 1. Shove. This often works nicely. Sit the dog down, open mouth, place pill as far back as possible. Close mouth. Tilt nose up at 75 degree angle, rub throat. Dog can be...

sorry about my last rabbit post

First off. Rabbit digestive systems are very, very, very sensitive. Get him on quality feed (Mannapro), and supply him with alfalfa hay. Lettuce = bad. No Lettuce. Secondly. Take the animal to a vet already.

    White substance around tank top

Calcium, or another mineral build up. My problem is/was Calcium. If it was going to be a while before I put fish back in a certain tank, I'd clean it off with CLR (Calcium, Lime, Rust remover). Other than that, I'd suggest warm soapy water, followed by a good rinsing. I know everyone says *NO...

    What Oddballs

An elephant nose would probably do alright, as would a flounder (though for both speices, you MUSTMUSTMUSTMUST have sand, or softer/finer gravel. The floundery needs to bury itself, and the ENF can't hurt it's mouth.

    elephant nose fish

here's some more information on the clicking.. Listening to Electric Fish As far as pipet use.. I use it to inject the food close to the fish, so that it's easily accessable by them. I feed bloodworms and brine, switch out every other day. Your fish will develop "peanut head" if it's...

    elephant nose fish

it would be a very faint click, but that's a yes. Their clicking can be (barely) audible. They make it when they're happy. About the flakes... mine have never, ever taken flakes. They live only on the bottom, making surface feeding impossible. EN's are best fed via putting a frozen chunk of...

    Cloudy water

I changed the water entirely (I know, I know, bad idea) but I was getting tank rot underneath an ornament.. and it smelled bad, and I'm sure wasn't good for the fish. I didn't lose any in the process. it's a 75 gallon, with 5 paradise fish, 2 zebra danios and a rosy barb. It became murky...

    Puffer (saltwater)

a porcupine puffer *will* grow to the standards you give it. If anyone is located near the Florida Keys, check out the highly expensive home store, "D'aign Source." Inside, they have a saltwater lazy stream type thing with Sting Rays, etc, and an 18" in diameter porcupine puffer!

CFC- with that pesky snakehead. by letting it have the fish after it grabs it from your hand is only reinforing the behavior- increasing the likelihood of it's occurance AGAIN! So why don't you back off hand feeding him for a while and see if he forgets his bad habit?

go DG! That's EXACTLY the method I'd be using =) I think some of my Op. Cond. jargon had rubbed off! I've never had someone actually think of the method, I've always had to be like "nope, this is how it's done..." I'll probably set up some sort of trainer tank... ooh, good stuff =) Mine are...

    fish tricks

Jamnog- Pavlov used Classical conditioning on his dog. It's a bit simpler, it doesn't, directly use a bridge. Rather the Unconditioned Stimulus is paired with an Unconditioned Response. Tanked- the form you used is actually Classical as well. You paired the unconditioned response of sucking on...

    fish tricks

The process would undoubtedly be Operant Conditioning (for all the Psych majors out there!!) with Positive Reinforcement. Now, I'll try and spare you all the crazy animal training jargon. The type of reinforcer being used is a primary (primary meaning that the reinforcement is something the...

    um, pleco died...

I don't believe you've ever seen a tank with such horrible algae conditions before. I never have, and I've had tanks for more than 10 years. What's weird is that the tank gets absoltuely NO sunlight. I've tried scrubbing every day, nothing works... the algae falls to the sand and forms a CARPET...

    um, pleco died...

about a week ago, I treated the tank with algaecide. Everyone was fine. A few days later, I added an elephant nose, 2 days after that, a Baby whale... yesterday everyone looked fine, the pleco looked remarkably beautiful, he had a huge sail of a dorsal fin. I also added the last bit of algaecide...

    Puffer gettin' skinny?

unfortunately he passed on early this morning. His belly was white, he was just extremely skinny. he had been moved downstairs 4 weeks before now, so he was getting a great deal more attention... And the water temp would have been better there than upstairs in my room. I'll miss the little...

Whoa, whoa, WHOA! Guys, sheesh! Take it easy on the poor guy- he didn't know! Puffer gettin' skinny?

Well, sadly, I think he's dying. He's stopped eating... although I did see him chomp down on a few bloodworms. He's still as skinny as he was before, but is now acting lethargic. I asked the pet store, and they were even unwilling to let me scrounge the plant tanks for a few snails to try. He...

    Anableps Tankmates

They're awesome fish.. and yeah, they at first seemed to be shoalers, but now I have to keep them seperated. When I heard they were shoalers, I ran up and bought another so he could have a buddy. Silver Arrowana

I've witnessed these sack like things (only red) from arrowannas at my LFS, however, I read somewhere they were egg sacks (forget if they're from their birth, or females with eggs, but everyone at the LFS had them, so I think it was the first option). And a few days later they were no logner...

hmm, no I can't give the name of the exact species, unfortunately. If you could point me to some photos, or other ways of...

    Anableps Tankmates

So, today, I got an anableps... he's pretty cool. He's currently temporarily in a 5 gallon minibow, with the water just deep enough for the filter to suck up water, but shallow enough that he's got some rocks to rest on, as it was in the tank at the store. The water level's really convenient...

    Bubblenesting like Crazy!

I've had bettas before, but never one that built such a bubblenest! Does that mean that he really 'likes' his new home, and would be willing to breed if I intoroduced a female? Puffer gettin' skinny?

I went on vacation, and when I came home... it appeared to me as if the puffer was skinnier than usual. I had people to care for him while I was gone, he kept a regular feeding schedule, he eats a varied diet of boodworms and brine shrimp. I've tried feeding him more, but he keeps this "sunken"...
