one more question on the cycling, I am setting up my tank tonight, I have decided to do small water changes during the cycle... how ofted do you do 5-10% changes? does it depend on the levels or should I just do them once/twice a week? thanks also, is it necessary to dechlorinate the water...

thanks, I should have new pictures after this weekend, I got my test kit in and the stain should be dry. Now I can set the tank up in posistion and fill it with water. Then on to they cycling stage thanks for the replies :P

sure, gotta make that cash.. but.. I think the UK is a little far to travel to build a fish tank stand :fun: That stand isnt comming down anytime soon, thats for sure. It was made with 2x4's and 2x8's! I hope to make my own doors for it someday. thanks

as far as I know you only clean a portion of your gravel bed at a time, being sure to document where you cleaned so that next time you go in there with the vac you can do the next section of gravel.. so on and so forth, that way you dont suck up all the bacteria in one big job. my noob opinion

ok,, now I am confused on cycling a tank though... I was told by gadazobe that when cycling a tank (using the ammonia method) once it is cycled you changed 90% of the water and your done. I thought all of the bacteria lived in the gravel? Or in MamaPhish's case, was her tank not fully cycled...

if its really cloudy, maybe its the end of your cycle... the bacterial bloom? or your bubbles are just casueing a raukus :P

crazy was telling me in another thread about how her female betas made lunch out of her frogs legs, so if I even think about trying a betta I willl wait till the frog gets bigger, what about the goldfish though.... goldie wont bother they frog right?

cfc, thanks, when I get my tank going I am now thinking about starting off by getting one of the puffers, probably a dwarf or a, I think there called spotted? one, and get one male mbuna and 2/3 females... If they dont seem to work out I will make sure the pet store will let me take the puffer...

wouldnt I be ok with having the mbuna's and puffers in together if they are all young? then they would be growing together, seems like if they grow up together they would get along? Im probably wrong.. just wondering. some of you tell me that puffers are aggressive, but arent the Malawi's...

if you dont wanna buy a whole seperate filter system.. why not just buy the biowheel separate to add to the magnum? I just got my magnum 350 w/biowheel, it wouldnt be hard for you to set up the biowheel, and it would be cheaper, and depending on your fish in the tank, I would think it would be...
