Platys also have a tendancy to breed, so you could end up with waaaaay too many :D You might want to check the sexes. PS 60 litres is 15 US gallons :) either way, i'd agree with T-P :)

Hmmm ... My nearest lfs is a branch of Maidenhead Aquatics, I've only been in there a couple of times, as it's reasonably new and I've only recently found out about it, but it seems like a pretty decent store. Maybe I'll have a chat and sound them out about it. They do have a tank with a sign...

I've got an 8" plec in a 120l (30ish gallon) tank. I'm sure I already know the answer but is this enough room for him? Here's a few pics of him, I think he is a common plec. My Plec 3 My Plec 2 My Plec 1 There's about 22" of other fish in there (tetras and platys) Cheers Jon

I'm sure i read somewhere that a snail population rise might be caused by overfeeding. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will correct me if im wrong :D I've eased back a bit on the feeding and the few snails I had have dissapeared. :kana:

I'd think you'd be wanting to run both the old and the new filters at the same time for a couple of weeks if you can. That way you give the beneficial bacteria time to develop in the new one before removing the old one. Wonder what's wrong with the old one tho ????

Me too :) ... Also noticed that when I tip it out into the sink (which is white) I get to see the colours much more clearly :D

Generally the media in a filter will need cleaning every now and again, I try and clean mine every 2-4 weeks, depends on your own situation. To clean them, you shouldnt use tap water, but rather use old tank water, drawn off during a water change, to try and get rid of the "worst" of the gunk...

The last piece of bogwood i added to my tank had been soaking for about 10 days i think.... the water in the tub it was in was still going brown after the first week :( I don't think it is harmful to fish, but a cloudy tank doesnt look too good :/ The one thing i would say would be to leave...

Mmm ... ok thanks As posted above ... the spine deformity happened many months ago. I'll shift him or do you think its a lost cause? Should I put him out of his misery?

Thanks :) Took some photos today, not great but you might be able to see the "blister" ... You can also see that his spine has deformed, this happened months ago when water changes were less frequent and water tests were occasional visits to LFS with a small jar :*) He still looks ok ...

Ok, so I knew it would happen with boy platys and girl platies in the same tank :*) ... Trouble is, the tank is pretty much at it's max capacity already :look: ... So I'd already decided that if I (well the fish, not me!) had any more births, the fry would just have to fend for themselves...

hmmmm I dont have a spare heater, so it might be a bit tricky ... What treatment would he need? How long would it take? At a push I suppose I could put my 2" CAE back in the community tank and use his tank, though I wouldnt feel too comfortable doing that if its for too long. Cheers
