My First Tank - 60L Sand

:Thanks: I'm definitely getting some live plants, the problem is my local vendors aren't great when it comes to plants (or maybe I am too picky lol) so I think I'll have to go further afield or order online.

My First Tank - 60L Sand

Added two new platies. I think I will try to find a few nice shrimp and call it complete. I'm still in love with kuhli loaches but if I force the idea on this tank I think I will be too close to, if not over, my stocking limit. That could be problematic for my fish so I will stop whilst I am...

    Gravel Or Sand

So much so that I barely had time to target any waste... so, easier in one respect and harder in another! I'll have to work on my speed lol.

    Gravel Or Sand

I've been using a vacuum type gravel cleaner like this which may mean I'm getting less suction at the flared intake and not pulling up as much debris as I would like. I may try siphoning with just the tube as I may get a faster flow around a narrow intake which would allow me to suck up debris...

    Gravel Or Sand

I've still not mastered cleaning my sand. I suppose the scape I have doesn't help much as it makes it harder to disturb the sand by swirling. Trouble is, even when I do manage to disturb it a lot of the waste that sits on top of the sand seems to be too heavy to get sucked up. As it stands I am...

    Very Poorly Neon Tetra

Having read up on the symptoms I am afraid this might be neon tetra disease. My fish has a definite pronounced curvature of the spine. As I said earlier the fish is all but dead, if it floats into plants it just gets stuck there. I might act cautiously and remove it from the tank, but having...

    Very Poorly Neon Tetra

Hi, I have just noticed that one of my twelve tetra looks extremely poorly. It is very small, half the size of my other tetras, and is very listless, being swept around rather than swimming. There is some movement but it looks all but dead. There is some discolouration to it, it looks like it...

    Cichlid Re-scape!

You have a fantastic looking tank. I love both scapes you've done. The first made it look quite like a marine setup.

    2.6Ft Planted Sunsun Tank

Your aquascaping is excellent. I love the way the plants seem to frame a focal point in the centre, makes it look like live art!

    "new" Tank

I might go for black background with black or grey sand in a future tank. Not sure I'd go for such colourful plants though.

    Kuhli Vs Java Loaches

I've voted kuhlis, by which I mean banded kuhlis like these http://youtu.be/AJ76diVJJ5U I know kuhlis are more shy than Javas and will burrow in the substrate but I imagine that's part of the fun of having them.

My First Tank - 60L Sand

No, I typed the name of a website beginning with "Aq" that calculates stocking levels, fish compatibility, water change schedule and filtration capacity and the forum automatically changed it to "Advert for another forum removed". I wasn't advertising another forum at all, simply referencing...

My First Tank - 60L Sand

When I initially developed this stocking plan AqAdvisor (<-- bit harsh as its a very useful tool for fish keepers) told me I was still under capacity. As for the tiger shrimp, I chose them because I liked the look of them but I could just as easily put "miscellaneous shrimp". If and when I buy...

    Gravel Or Sand

:thanks: I do have a thread over in members aquarium and fish pictures which I post pics to every now and then. As for the loaches, it is the banded kuhlis I'm after, they look so cool and my kids are so excited about them. I think java loaches are plain in colour aren't they?

    Gravel Or Sand

Yes I know what you mean about it sitting on top of the sand, a friend of mine said exactly the same. I suppose the whirlpool technique is something I've yet to master lol.

    Gravel Or Sand

Was that to me? If so, thanks! As for cleaning sand, I have a vacuum siphon which I imagine would be very easy to clean gravel with as you could just plonk it into the gravel and let it swirl about. If you do that with sand it just sucks up sand along with your dirty water. I have to kind of...

    Gravel Or Sand

I have sand in mine. I think it looks fantastic and gives the tank a natural feel. I have only just started to populate my tank but I do plan on getting some kuhli loaches which will love burrowing in the sand. On the downside sand does seem harder to clean.

    Feeding

I feed mine once a day on a staple of Tetra Pro Colour 'multi-crisps' with occasional dried bloodworm and tubifex for variety. Some of it sinks to the bottom but my tetra and platies have no issue with scooping it off the substrate and chowing down.

    8 Week Old Tank

Jammy get :D I got my current fish from Pier Aquatics in Wigan, and because I work in Bolton I spend a lot of time at Dave's Aquarium but I haven't bought any fish from there, just other stuff. I may well check out Aqualife, in the next couple of weekends. The kids love going to look at fish!

    Cucumber

Never heard of zucchini lol. Freezing makes sense as well as it should make it denser than the water so it sinks. I think.
  26. TheStretchedElf

    Cucumber

Ah, ok. I plan on getting some kuhli loaches soon so maybe I will try then.
  27. TheStretchedElf

    Cucumber

I might try this sometime. Do you think neon tetras and platies would appreciate a bit of cucumber?

    8 Week Old Tank

Great looking tank. I think for fake plants those look really good (I might be a bit biased though, my tank's full of them lol). The platies look nice too, thought they were red wags at first as I'd just bought some myself at the weekend.

My First Tank - 60L Sand

Added my first fish today! 11 neon tetras are happily exploring their new home. For the most part they shoal together but occasionally they will split into two groups and spend time at either side of the tank. It's great to finally have some fish in at last! I will be getting my kuhli loaches in...
