 My 20 gallon is leaking, and I have one molly in there. I'm unable to get any sealant (limited mobility, no money >.>) so a fix is out of the question. My ten gallon in thriving, but I have tetras and a betta in there. I can't add a molly to the mix, what do?

 For my ten gallon, I'm thinking a betta and some neon tetras.. How many neons can I stock in a ten gallon? I know at least five is preferable, but how many for a ten gallon plus a betta?

Yes, the grey cartridge. Sorry, I wasn't clear. I assumed the only thing you had in the filter was the black mesh thing I cannot remember the name of. Also, fish can tolerate that much ammonia, but it doesn't mean it's not harming them.

Hmm... my first advice to you is that if there is any ammonia detectable, do a water change. Also, how are you testing the water? The bacteria grows on the carbon cartridge itself. That's probably your problem.

Try some cooler water changes. Maybe you could stick some cooler water bottles into the water?

No, in my opinion five gallons is bare minimum for any fish, including a betta.

 Yes, if you add the filter media from your mom's filter it will jump start the cycle. :)
