    cichlid algae eater

I've been working on a Lake tang set up, and there is a snail (brown and black zig zags) that is very efficient for algea, if you get a pair you could get some of the Tang cats (petricola i think) to keep population down.

    Please confirm i.d

I've got a feeling its a Parachromis friedrichsthali or a Nandopsis dovii

my fish are gasping for air!!

Firstly you need to get an airline in there, anything to displace the surface, if you dont have a seperate pump then angle your filter in a way that it breaks the surface. How hot is the tank water, if its way high then try floating some ice in the tank but be sure to put it in a watertight...

    Brown Algea

Crikey! how long's a piece of string. If you have live plants then it varies, it's been a long time since I've had tanks with live plants as for a long time I've kept cichlids exclusively and had fake plants. If you use fake plants and the tank recieves a decent amount of daylight then you may...

    Small asian fish

Crikey surely not the cherry's they're shy little things :o But if you dont wish to risk that try a shoal of pencil fish, I think they are fascinating as far as little fish go

    Small asian fish

You will not be dissapointed with a shoal of cherry barbs, 7-8 just the job

    Brown Algea

Brown algae is often caused by a lack of light, try keeping the tank lights on for slightly longer.

    Cuckoo Cat

Nice one Mike. Tell me how big do these fellas get?, They're partial to a touch of the green stuff aren't they?, Do they get on with other cats i.e. Spotted Raphael?

    fw puffer species

Pufferpack, what besides the colomesus works in a community tank of african river system cichlids?
  21. F

    possible 20gal combos?

Yeah, go with a nice shoal of glow light tetra with th rams, would look lovely with a bit of bogwood in there too
  22. F

    fw puffer species

Well in a 2 Gallon the only thing size wise would be a coupl of Pygmy puffers
  23. F

    mono

Mono's are very brackish, as far as compatibility I guess there must be a Puffer to go with them.
  24. F

    possible 20gal combos?

I have just been cutting some small tank recipes, try this: 2 African blockheads, 1 Syno petricolus, 4-6 African lampeye. OR 2 Kribensis, 1 syno petricolus, 4-6 red longfinned african characins or the lampeyes.
  25. F

Green is out, Brown is in.

Brown algae occurs if the tank does not recieve enough light, trust me

    Convicts

I forgot to mention that you could have a hardy plec (bristlenose) maybe a pair as long as you provide enough hiding spots for them.
  27. F

    Convicts

Firstly, no other fish in a 29g with a pair of cons. No plants cos they'll just rip them right out, maybe a half of a flower pot, a few hidey holes to lay eggs in, a smooth gravely substrate is good. As for food; frozen bloodworm, live bloodworm (as long as you strain the water they come in...

    Jaguar and Yo-Yo's

Wait till it gets as big as "Cupcake". Try putting in a few redhook silver dollars, I have 3 and they don't seem to get too bothered. I also have a 6" spotted Raphael in as clean up. Anything large and fast will be ok if you introduce it now while the Jag is small. When you do add anything it's...

    Convict cichlids ??????

How many Congos are there, jus outta interest, 36" should be fine for them but be prepared for some carnage. If its just for live food then perhaps a more mild mannered Cichlid would be better. Rainbow cichlid, or Australis, they breed well too. Oh another thing, When your,e fry have hatched it...

    Cichlids Color

If the tank lights were off the whole time, that might make their colours fade.
  33. F

    Convict cichlids ??????

Go for the cons with the cat, he should be able to deal with them, How big is he BTW? You may find yer Congos will take a kicking around breeding time but in a 40G long they should be fast enough to dodge the stripey fella's. As long as tankmates are fast and few then you should be OK.

    Redhook fish

They are a lovely larger community fish, they are tough to, I have 3 living with a 13" Jaguar and they can handle him, they are A Silver dollar and they will eat anything and it's a good isea to have a varied diet. Being related to the Silver dollar, does make them a relative of the Piranha species.

    is my fish poorly sick???

It might be scabs, on the lips anyway, has it been shifting rocks or anything. I don't know much about black spot, but do you have any snails in the tank. Also and this is worst case scenario, try and find some info on Thyroid tumor, or malignant cancer tumors. It could be something to do with...

    is my fish poorly sick???

It may be Ammonia burn, happens if a fish is taken from a low ammonia environment and put into a tank with a higher level, I think it may also occur if you get a massive ammonia spike.
