I got mine from eBay (about £1.20 per snail) and while they do breed (well... mine are!!) they are nowhere near as prolific in numbers of ickle ones as the pest snails. Seriously though, Assassins do a great job of getting rid of pest snails - and they are very pretty creatures too!! :)

My lot are breeding like there's no tomorrow!! I stopped counting after thirty... :D

Mine always tries to put me on the M25. Even when I'm nowhere NEAR the M25. Heck! I could be in the middle of Siberia and the damned thing would try and route me via the M25... Grrrrr... :D

My Siamese Flying Fox is an outright thug!! He doesn't like the Danios one bit. If a nosey little Danio dares to enter his territory, he goes mental!! Interestingly, he leaves the Kuhlis and the Corys alone, but he used to pick on the BN plec. Weird!!

Hee!! One of my Kuhlis once launched itself clean out of the tank. I was cleaning the filter on the floor and I heard this 'split splat split splat split splat' and I thought it was water dripping out of the filter, so I shrugged and carried on cleaning. Imagine my horror when I was just about...

Ditto on the Assassin snails. They are very pretty creatures, don't breed like crazy (unlike pest snails) will clear your tank of any pest snails ...and will also eat any leftover fish food. I've had my herd of lil' stripey Assassins for a few months now and I ab-so-lute-ly LOVE 'em!! :)

*points up* Wot he sed. I personally like having a balanced little ecosystem, so I bought in the Assassin Snails (which are very pretty creatures) to help control the pest snails like Pond snails and Ramshorns. They ate the lot - and were sooooo happy, they started making ickle baby Assassin...

My very first water change, with the fish in the tank (bearing in mind that I knew NOTHING about cycling, etc either...) I put cold water into the tank. Didn't THINK to add a touch of warm water to the bucket, did I? My lil' Danios teeth were chattering!! (They're still alive, by the way...)...

My Danios used to pick at the cucumber that I used to put in for my BN plec!! Very funny to watch considering that their mouths are on the top of their 'muzzles', so they used to do headstands trying to pick bit s off!! :)

On the flipside of the coin, the cheapest fish I ever bought were the two Siamese Flying Foxes, Four Kuhlis and the 2 Common Plecs that I 'bought' when I first set up my tank. I say 'bought' because the garden centre where I got them from had a new kid on the tills that Saturday and he forgot...

Heh heh!! That sounds familiar: I bought five khulis, but for the last year, have only ever been able to count four. Until this morning, that is, when I counted five again!! :hyper:

I'll send my Danios over. They'll soon find 'em!! I once found one of the greedy piglets with a bit of pea the size of it's HEAD in it's mouth. Despite the fact that it was plainly impossible for it to manage, the fish spent a good two minutes determindly trying to 'chew' it, before spitting it...

Well, that's what I was thinking... I mean, we don't see squillions of posts here saying, "Eek!! It's really stormy and all my fish have croaked!!" I suppose you could argue that seeing as some folks get migraines, etc before storms because of the change in atmospheric pressure - it's entirely...

Hi all, I was having a chat with a 'fishie' pal of mine and she says that the chap at her LFS always suffers with stock dying if there are storms brewing. I guess it makes some kind of sense because if that rise in barometric pressure causes the pressure inside the tank (which is a glass box...

I'm gonna second Assassin Snails. I got some a few months back and now I have NO pest snails!! My Assassins have started breeding, but unlike pest snails, they don't overrun the tank as they are slow breeders. (And they are very pretty!!) :)

Hee!! The lil' stripey fellas have settled in fiiiiiine!!! I have to say, they are doing rather a good job of chomping their way through the rogue snails and I think I've seen a couple of 'em trying to breed!! :)

I've got both Pond and Ramshorn snails. I don't mind snails hanging around and cleaning up any excess food, but my filter sponges always seems to be PACKED full of them!! :blink: I try not to over-feed my tank's inhabitants: I only put a small pinch of food in for my fish in the morning...

Agreed. Unless there's an injury, docking of the tail - and worse, ears - should be banned outright. It wasn't THAT long ago, we docked horses' tails because of 'fashion', thereby taking away a horse's main defense against biting insects. Sorry, but mutilation of an animal purely for the sake...

I've got a rather healthy snail population in my tank and was toying with the idea of adding some assassin snails. Are these fellas a good idea to help keep the snail population down (as well as making sure I'm not over-feeding!!)?

Here's a funny thing that has got me thinking: Nibbler (the BN plec) is as regular as clockwork. As soon as the tank lights go out at 7pm, he glides in from where ever he's been hanging out all day, and comes in to land directly under the hole in the tank glass where I pop in his plec flakes...

I'm vegetarian-going-on-vegan. Heck! I couldn't even cut a ham sandwich in half for ya!!! :lol:

...ergh... I had to euthanise the poor fella - his mouth was stuck right open, he couldn't eat and was just wasting away. I just couldn't sit there and watch him die slowly, that's just not fair. The other one that was looking sorry for itself has perked up enormously and is now swimming...

Cool!! Can you recommend any particular UK brand of meds? And will these meds be OK with the rest of my tank's inmates? :good:
