hello! im going to be getting some cories this weekend and was wondering what you all suggest i get for them food wise. i have algae wafers and frozen bloodworm already for some of my other fish. but i would like to know what would be a good staple food? thank you!!

stir the sand a bit to release any gas build up. i stir mine once a week when i do a water change.

you may want to see if your lfs will take them back before you get them. i know mine wont even take my platy fry! if they dont have tanks big enough to house them they wont take them. it is not good to release them into the wild, i do believe there are laws about that on at least quite a few...

i almost forgot, i have 4 mystery snails in the tank too. also, last weekend our power went out for two days and the tank temp was down to below 60F. that wiped out a few of the fish in the tank.

if the tank is still cycling then you should wait to add anything else to your tank.

try to get a liquid water test kit as the strips are not very acurate. api master freshwater test kit is good. as for meds, if you want you can get Maracyn as a just in case.

can you use a flashlight to look for velvet? it would look like gold powder covering the fish. it would be best to find out exactly what is wrong before ya treat with meds. for the moment water changes and the salt will be good.

sounds like finrot. from what i have read about bettafix it is better used to prevent/after meds for finrot. to treat you need somthing like Maracyn or Tetracycline, although clean water is the very best way to treat. keep using the aquarium salt.

could be finrot, water changes are one of the best things you can do, clean water will really help his fins. is the bettafix the only med you have?

i was going to crush up flake food into a fine powder. i heard that hard boiled egg yolk would be good too, is that right?

thank you everyone!! i made him a makeshift breeding trap out of a tupperware that i cut a hole in and stuffed with filter sponge to let some flow through. just to make sure he wasnt eaten!

i dont have anywhere to put him, but the gravel in the tank is larger so he can get in there and hide. thats where he keeps dissapearing to when i try to get pics. i did manage to get one though!! the two little black dots on his tail look like MM ears i think!

about a week age i noticed that one of my platy girls looked like she had had her fry but i didnt see any. i figured they were hiding in the gravel or had been eaten. they are in the community tank. but when i did my water change today i found one little guy!!!! yay!! it is about this big ____...

its a 20 gallon and i did put all the media i had in the bags. it was fully cycled with the biobags that were in there so i stuffed them into the new ones so as not to lose the bacteria.

due to finances i cant replace the filter as of anytime soon and if i replace them as often as they say to then i'd be getting rid of all the bacteria right?

they are zebra danios, but they are the bright red orange and green ones that are called 'glofish' if you do a search for that name you can see what i mean everytime i try to get more of them all i find are sick ones now:(
