Awhile back my girlfriend and i set up a 10 gallon for her.
We put a couple guppies, a couple neons and a male and a female betta in the aquarium.
well the male has been bullying the female alot lately.
Im afraid hes going to kill her.

We've got a 55 gallon with a few angels, 3 bolivian rams, black neons, glow lights and serpae tetras.
Will the male betta be able to live comfortably in the 55 gallon without being picked on?

Thanks

you cannot have a male with any other bettas he will kill it! females can be together in groups of at the very least 4. the angels will nip his fins. so will some of the others. you may be better off putting the female in the 55. but the neons in the ten gal wil nip to. and he may attack your guppies. the male would be best off in a tank of his own. at least 3 gal.

Ive never ever heard of anyone having problems with male's with other females.
Heard of plenty of other problems with males with males.
Ive been keeping fish for over 10 years now, we are just fairly new to bettas.

I would get a 5 gallon set up for the male! The only time a male should be with a female is during mating. I had a female in with a community in a 55 gallon and everything was fine. There was a big angle in there to.

In my community though I did not have any small nippy fish!

You have to be kidding. THat is the number one mistake! That is why a lot of females die during breeding! Lol.

I would say the female! The angel would go after the male betta fins. I would put the female in and watch and see what happens any problems then I would look into getting a 5 gallon set up for the male so you can put the female back in were she is now.

Remember Betta boy he said he is new to bettas so he didn't know but hes trying to make things right so cut him some slack please.

definitly the female in the 55.! there is a lot of care info in the stickies in the betta section too:)

yeah, just jump my case.
Dont let the thought pop into your head that im a responsible fish keeping that is TRYING to sort out a problem and find what is RIGHT for the betta's.

Anyways.
tried the female in the 55, 2 serpae's went after her and immediately started attacking her.
Sure the male wont work?

We had a male in there before but it was before the angels were added.
The male went missing about 6 months after adding him to the 55.
15 neons also went missing.

We missed the betta, and picked up a male, while at the fish store we got interested in the females and were told we could keep
how ever many females we wanted with the 1 male. News to me.

When i put the female in the 55, one of the angels swam over but showed no interests in her.
He swam off and minded his own. 2 Serpae tetras came along and went on a nipping spree, i about crapped down my leg.
Only took a few seconds for me to get her in a net.

Definitely yes if i want her to die.
But i do care about her and am not that cold hearted, sorry.
can not do that.

Hey now just because some one jumped on you doesn't give you the right to jump on flip. Flip was just trying to help and posted before you tried. If you said the tetras went nipping at the female wouldn't you think it would be even worse if you put the male in seeing how hes the one with the bigger fins. If you want you can try but have the net ready. If that doesn't work you'll either half to take one back or fork out the money for another setup for the male.

Right now ive got the female in a net in the 10 gallon.
I'll have to take her back tomorrow.

Hi. Yes that would be the best solution. A betta in any community tank is a risk. Either other fish will rip the fins to shreds or the betta will take a dislike to other fish and keep flaring and chasing them. I have a lovely blue male that's fine with other fish but won't have a gourami in his tank. Goes mad and flares and attacks it.

Where are you situated? could maybe try and get rid of it to a board member, that way it will have the best of care....

Oh and the angel probably eat the neon tetras you were talking of.

Put the male in a seperate home all by himself. I have a female splendin in with my community and everything is fine. But NO males.

Look at the setup in my signature, We have no fin nippin no squabbling no deaths. I think it depends on the personality of your fish.

Actually my signature don't show the betta's but we have 1 male siamese fighter and 3 female's
