The LFS i use is about 30mins away from my house - of the times i've been to get fish my OH has been with me to hold the bag and look after them. How do you guys & girls transport you fish if its just you in the car? What is the safest option?

Thank you LadyDragon :) it makes sense I'm just a naturally a bit anxious but I figure if I can handle a 18 week old kitten and a 10 year old cat and their disputes I can deal with a few fish! And I'm sure jazz wouldn't mind a pretty neighbour if it came down to it (separate tanks of course!)

ok thank you :) its good to get opinions :) What signs of agression should i look for, i noticed when i looked in my LFS last time at the girls some were fin nipped and some had nice tails - would the nicer tailed ones be the more dominant girls?

If I went for the girls I wouldn't get the guppies, I'm struggling to find any I like anyway! 5 would be good, are they easy to add too? I know they will establish their own order, I guess adding 5 would minimise any territorial issues.

Once I add these fish I wouldn't be adding anymore. How many girls would I need? I have read I should aim to get the number I want to start off with? Is this correct?

i hadnt thought about male guppies as i had previously ruled them out due to the Betta - how many would i need to have to avoid fighting. Agreed i definately need more of the original tetras i have. i do prefer the smaller fish :)

Last night whilst feeding my male betta Jazz i notice on one of his ventral fins he had a small white bubble half way down, it looks like someone has pulled a loop of white cotton out of his fin. there were two bettas in community tanks at my lfs on saturaday and they were so fin nipped it was awful, i was nearly in tears - i couldnt take them as i have no where to put them and i just have to keep reminding myself that as long as they are there no other bettas will be brought in to have...

Ahh I will go and get him some silk or a live plant today then for him and keep up with the water changes!

I siphon it out with a small gravel siphon and the gently pour declorinated temp matched water back in with a jug. I left him in as he doesn't like being caught so I took about 70% of the water out. I always pour at the opposite end to him so he doesn't get swirled round.

all the 0's after the water change and p.h is at 7.2 could it be because i have some spikey plastic plants in there he could have torn it on? do i need to add in any like acquarium salt or bettafix of myxazin or will he be ok with just water changes?

After posting about some Fin Nipping going on my new Betta Jazz has been moved into his own tank on his own. He seems much happier and calmer now hes on his own and even flared at his mirror i held up for him. My next question is what do in terms of food as all he wants to eat is the mushed up...

You need to read this Fish In Cycling as you are doing a fish in cycle, and you need to do a large water change immediately, i think the experts on here will suggest an 85% change with dechlorinated tank temp matched water. This site has taught me a lot of new things :) keep going!

lol i keep buying fake plants and i have even made some tank decorations out of pebbles and aquarium sealent lol anything to stave off the urge just to shove some fish in, i have the patience of a gnat!

when is this going to end!
