Why doesn't it make sense ? I didn't say i used coral sand. I said i use play sand and added Crushed coral (Not coral sand)to raise the PH. The crushed coral i use is far too big for Multi's hence why i asked what was the best sand for them.

I would like to keep Multi's but my water is very soft with PH around 7, and realise that they require hard water with a high PH. I have put Argos play sand in some of my other tanks but need to put crushed coral in these tanks as the Ph drops to around 6 if i don't. What other sand can i use...

Your fish is definately a Serpae Tetra. Red Phantoms have a rounder black mark on their sides, Serpaes have more of a slash like your fish, hope that helps.

Thanks for the replies. The sand was to raise the ph. My water is around 7 and very soft. i cant put crushed coral in my filter as im running large sponge filters off an air system and theres nowhere for it to go. thanks again, Alan.

I'm setting up a 5ft cichlid tank and plan to use coral sand. eBay has loads of different grain sizes, does it matter what size the grains are or is it down to personal choice. You could try the Jelly Bean Tetra (Ladigesia roloffi), These are from Africa and max out at 1 1/2 inches.

Looking for two tanks, one 60(l)x 15(h)x14(d), the other 48(l)x15(h)x12 1/2(d). There for my fish house so don't need to be new just watertight. They need to be those sizes as they need to fit in a metal rack although slightly smaller would be okay. Will pay a reasonable price but not funny...

Looking to put insulation between the shed walls/roof and the plywood walls of my new fish house. Is Loft insulation, i.e. The fibreglass stuff suitable. Would i need to use plastic sheeting on either or both sides for any moisture, Thanks in advance for any advice, Alan.

I have these fish and the Brigittae which are similar, both species shoal together in the tank as they do in the wild, and are great little fish.These fish are sexually dichromatic. The males when in condition exhibit a more intense red body colour than the females which are plumper.

As Kitty Kat says the Emperor Tetra(Nematobrycon palmeri)has the dorsal fin but the Purple Emperor tetra (Inpaichthys kerri)has a dorsal fin and a small adipose fin between the dorsal and tail fins (Blue in males and red-orange in females). I've only kept the Purple Emperor but got rid of them...

You could try 'TetraMin Baby'. I used this in conjunction with Micro Worms and Walter Worms. When they got a little bigger i crushed all the adult food i use, Tetra(Tabimin, Prima and Pro)mixed them all with the baby and fed them that.
