Apisto Cacatuoides / Cockatoo Cichlid - Triple Red

    Apistogramma Eunotus

I think, as with most Apistos IME, if you have two males, you and more then two females, you will get 2 pairs and spare females, rehome the subdominant male, then you should have a nice harem of 1.3, perfect ratio IMO

Off To Pick Up My New Tank Tonight! :d

Nice JD, adult male you got their, i'd personally put him in a holding tank, stock with a few smaller stuff then put him in, he will be very aggressive toward any new tankmates, the Angelicus will need a longer tank IMO, they reach about 10" so i doubt its gonna grow much more, if you rehomed it...

    9" - 10" Pet Cichlid?

I agree with this but Zonatus are a very territorial species, add your catfish and dithers before the zonatus, otherwise he will see them as intrduers to his territory :good:

Black Ghost Knives - Why So Cheap?

I'd assume they're farm fish, i'm pretty sure they're not too common in the wild, and captive breeding is EXTREMELY rare too

    Datnoids

Datnoids are not a species you should get if you can't care for them properly, they're a specialist species and really shouldn't be touched by an inexperienced keeper, one of the hardest freshwater species to keep and unless you can give it all it needs and more, don't go near them!

Is This Plec To Big For My Tank

I'm not sure it is, looks far too "shallow" bodied for me!
  13. J

    Orange Spot Plec (Not Panaque!)

  14. J

Is This Plec To Big For My Tank

Doesn't look like a common to me, might just be the pic, but it looks silver, commons are brown/black sort of colour

    Orange Spot Plec (Not Panaque!)

After a bit of research, I'm pretty sure its an Ancistrinae sp, which one though, is anyones guess

Choc Gouramis Spinning Round In Circles?

Cheers for the reply :) Been looking at courting videos and territorial videos and it seems to be more like courting to me, but usually the court on the floor of the tank and not mid-way ?

Choc Gouramis Spinning Round In Circles?

Only had my pair for 2 days, and they're as healthy as any fish i've kept, so pleased, sat and watched them last night and they randomly stopped and followed eachother round, sort of like a dog chasing its tail but with 2 dogs if that makes any sense? Is this normal behaviour or is it...
  21. J

    Chocolate Gouramis

Fair enough, i'm going to see how it goes but at present all fish are perfectly healthy, obviously if i see ANY signs on nipping, i'll put the chocolates in a seperate tank :)

Bought As "black Phantom Tetra" Two Different Species?

My waters just about neutral at the minute, but i'm hoping to lower that slowly, Also, Bloodfin tetras maybe? they're certainly one of the larger tetra! :good:

Bought As "black Phantom Tetra" Two Different Species?

Yeah i agree, their is a red phantom but they're a lot more read, the fish are around 2cm aswell so not babies, so they should have almost adult colour now, a hybrid seems most likely, look lovely tho :) Oh :) thats good then, are these easy to breed? :good: :good:

Bought As "black Phantom Tetra" Two Different Species?

    Chocolate Gouramis

Camera battery is charging as we speak :) 10 black phantom tetras, pair of bolivian rams, a zigzag eel, and a paradise fish (have a spare tank if she attacks them, but they're actually shoaling together!) and 2 bristlenose(temporary) 5 red nose shrimp also :)

    Chocolate Gouramis

I've been reading further into them, and wild caught are more likely to need softer water, captive bred are slightly more hardy and i'm pretty sure my pair of CB, no ill effects being shown and they look healthy enough in my water (7.0) feeding on tetra prima and bloodworm too (frozen)
  28. J

    Chocolate Gouramis

Yeah i've read up about them a while back, with a view to getting them in a separate tank in the future, PH is 6.5-6.8, hopefully i can lower it to around 6.0 :good:
  29. J

    Chocolate Gouramis

Noticed my LFS (Very rare that they stock anything other then a decent range of tetras, lots of little random characins, oscars, and some community fish) had Chocolate Gouramis in yesterday, at a decent price (i thought) £2.99, so i bought 2 of them to try in my tank, woke up this morning...

    Second-Hand Fish

I've not read the other replies in this thread, but surely if you had read up about your fish, you wouldn't have bought 3 sterbai, who are a lot happier with atleast another 3 companions, or 2 pygmy, who are again shoaling fish that wont feel secure in low numbers and be permanently stressed...

    Hilly Effect With Substrate

Or peices of slate, or cork tubes, or cork tiles etc... you want something that wont allow the substrate to seep through, but at the same time withstand the weight, cork tubes worked for me, siliconed together.

Here I Was Thinking That My Gbrs Hated Each Other!

If the eggs are on a rock or peice of bogwood which you can remove... do that and put the female in the tank with them till they hatch and start becoming more independant, obviously you will have to have a tank with the same parameters as your 'main' tank, and you risk loosing the eggs via the...

    Please Help Settle This Argument...

Nitrite will be "converted" to nitrate during the nitrogen cycle, do you have live plants in your tank? live plants will lower nitrate levels. you can remove Nitrite,Ammonia,Nitrate via waterchanged with HMA or RO filtered water, tap water usually has nitrites, nitrates, ammonia in the water so...

    Half Striped Zigzag Eel

WOW thats a very tame eel! :) I'll keep you updated, i have a clam shell in the tank which he loves, and he also loves prawns at the minute too!

    Half Striped Zigzag Eel

I'll look into them, i've been given a very young pair of paradise fish by a freind so i'll see how they get on for now, that rules out butterfly fish i think, any probelm with banjo cats?
  38. J

    Half Striped Zigzag Eel

Bought one of these on impulse 2 days back, with an eye to upgrade if needed, but as my tank is big enough for his adult size, i don't need to :) the tanks roughly 40 gallon, i also bought 3 Bolivian rams, and i'm considering a banjo catfish too, obviously not for at least a week or so to let...
