I wouldn't get hung up on flo rates there pointless really as they are as far as im aware are measured by the motors in the filters not once the filter is running under full load with media etc so don't actually mean a lot. 2 2217's would run that tank or a big Fluval FX5 as they are messy fish...

I wouldn't say its that easy,flow rate is important but also not a great gage of a filters use. filter volume should be thought about as the more volume the more media the more filtering etc. Eheim 2217 are cheap but very good maybe a couple of those, again 2 is better than 1 as if anything...

Brilliant thanks guys Im going to keep about 100litres in a water butt, my filter media can stay in the filter (eheim with valves on the hoses) as it wont leak and its only a 10 min drive and im going to shovel the sand and some water into rubble sacks. Fingers crossed it will be all good! Cheers

Its a 6 x 2 roughly about 120G I rekon, got an empty 4ft as well did have another 6ft but cracked the bottom moving it! In an ideal world I will try keep all of them together but to be honest im expecting to end up splitting them up but touch wood so far they are getting on great!
