You coukd have 5-6 in a 60l imo anymore and theres not enough space. Any less than 5 and they'll fight

you could have a nice group of 6-8 females in there no problem, they are very social and most are a lot less aggressive *still the odd 1 now and then*. I have 26 all living happily together :)

I understand completely what your saying, theres so many reasons a pair may not work but IMO your best to start with quality my 1st pair were a DTHM & HM

a plakat male would be best IMO on another note have you considered a group of females? theres some very nice ones about these days ;)

half a poly cup works well with nesting Bettas, however in a community a nest is not a good thing as it will make the male more aggressive

lovely Betta you got there :) the plant is actually a house plant and will rot and die when fully submerged, remove it asap.

I hear my name :D heres my yougn DTHM male like the 1 above, bred by me i have several dragon bettas (black & blue, lilac & orange, green & yellow, silver & orange) the 2 black and whites are more than likely marbles so will change a lot in there lifetime :)

not worth the risk IMO the male *especially a fully mature adult* can turn at any time, you could pop out round the corner shop and come back to a dead fish :/

the female is always removed immediately after other wise she will be killed by the male, if you leave them male you have more chance of him eating the lot rather than the 'weaker' ones. plus how are you going to feed him and the fry at the same time when there need separate foods?

to be honest the female doesn't look happy, she looks pale and is showing stress stripes, 1-2 weeks is nothing anyway, it tends to bad after a few months i call it 'moody teenager stage' where he will not tolerate and kill any females present

if you breed ANY strain with a VT you will get a heavy VT spawn as its most dominant. IMO its best not to breed VTs as, like you say they are everywhere and other more 'showy' strains are becoming highly popular, people are now more willing to pay the bit extra for better quality fish.

pay attention to the webbing ;) my CT was Quad ray so had 4, the Comb has 2

its not just jumping you have to watch for, its the slightest gap on the bottom or side where it meets the glass, I've had plenty squeeze through where i thought they wouldn't!

I agree with Nicki, although she has slight extentions theres no reduction in webbing, in females the reduction needs to be atleast 25% this is a CT female this is a comb female

does your blue have any red on him? the female sounds cambodian colour which is a result of red loss gene. Red is the most dominant colour in bettas, the slightest trace and you'll get a majority of red offspring

If the Pygmys fall through id be interested in them and the Betta :)

More than likely an age thing. The peppers will appreciate a larger tank though

Not commenting on the culling as i dont agree with it so it wouldnt be nice or helpful. You need a 10gal to breed but atleast a 20gal grow out tank. Fry NEED live food as it stimulates them to eat. Brine shrimp would be way too big anyway. If you want quality fish start with quality fish simple.

No one ever said you were. Just 99% of stores recommend keeping them together which gives you dead fish so you go buy more. What size is the tank? :)
