What Type Of Severum Is This?

Another update, they are both settling in nicely. I don't know if they are going to colour up any more. I am trying to work out if they are full turquoise or crossed with something else.

New Severum: Strange Marks On Head...

Cheers. I brought some Cichlid Gold with the severum, I am under the impression this is quite good food? Thanks for the advice. If it does turn out to be HITH, is shouldn't be fatal should it?

Thanks minxfishy. It does indeed look like they have been through the wars, a fair bit of fin damage and other such marks from the LFS.

"Strange" Marks On My New Severum

Thanks for you help Wilder, I've created a thread in the Cichlid forums. It's very difficult to see if these marks are pitted or not. If they are it is very shallow, here is two more photos:

New Severum: Strange Marks On Head...

UPDATE: New photo showing the marks on the head: I've posted this image in the 'Tropical Emergencies' section, though Wilder recommended that I also post here in case someone can provide further help. I got a pair of new severum, and just noticed that one of them has 'strange' marks above...

"Strange" Marks On My New Severum

I climatised the fish for approximately 45mins. Both the severum were extremely stressed while in the LFS, they both kept to the bottom of the LFS tank and didn't move about much. They were also very, very faded - they have since started colouring up and are swimming happily around my tank and...

"Strange" Marks On My New Severum

Thanks for the replies! No pitting, no flicking or rubbing. No excess mucas or darting. The eyes on one of them are very slightly cloudy, and one is scratched. The fins are also slightly damaged on both fish. I am not sure if these injures are caused by fighting each other - or from other...

"Strange" Marks On My New Severum

Hi, I just got two new Severum, and one of them has strange marks on its head. Please see the photo below, the 'marks' I am referring too are the ones above and behind its eyes. Are these just sensory organs or is it something else?

What Type Of Severum Is This?

Thanks. I'm not sure what happened with the fins, maybe they fought in the shop - there has been a bit of mouth locking since they been home, but that has all stopped now. The smaller of the severum has its side fin eaten about half-way off. It looks like it will grow back though given time...

What Type Of Severum Is This?

I'm really surprised that their colours can change so drastically. I once had a bunch of Black Emperor Tetras that would turn salmon pink whenever they were spooked - so yes, maybe it is a similar thing going on here. I ended up getting the two severum, they are lovely fish and seemed so sad...

What Type Of Severum Is This?

I'm starting to think I was too quick to judge! He's not quite as 'brightly coloured' as the gold severum's but that is no bad thing is it. This guy is one of a pair, he is about 8" to 9" and the other one is 7" to 8". They both have the exact same colouring.

What Type Of Severum Is This?

Hi, I'm just wondering if anyone can tell me what type of Severum is in the photo? It is meant to be a green severum, however I think the colouring looks somewhat bland. The severum is in a small tank in the shop and has been there about a month. It looks healthy but not too happy, as it...

    A Few Fish Photos...

Thanks for the comments all! I don't know what camera you have, mine is a DSLR. I set the camera to aperture priority mode and opened the aperture as wide as it will go (lowest f number). I then chose ISO 1600 and under-exposed the images by 2 full-stops which gave me a fast shutter speed.

    A Few Fish Photos...

Hi all! I recently got a new camera; a Canon EOS 450D and have really been itching to try it out on my fish tank. Pretty happy with the results so far, though I am looking forward to getting to grips with the camera and obtaining much better photos. Anyway here's a few for now: Added...

Good Battery Backup (ups) For Aquarium Use?

I was looking into this a few months ago - and there is so little helpful information out there. It's difficult to know what to do. I got lucky and received two 1400 APC power supplies from work, as they are closing down. They will run my 25 Watt filter for about 24hrs each I think. Do you...

    Green Algae "carpet" On Substrate

Although it doesn't appear blue-green, from what you say I would say it is the same algae. Mine was also crystallizing the substrate and crept. The algae in my tank disappeared when the lights were off because there wasn't much of it. Also, blue-green algae nearly always appears in the front...

    Green Algae "carpet" On Substrate

Sounds to me, like this could be blue green algae. Does it look like this? That's a photo from my tank some months back. The problem was being caused by two issues: 1) Rotting / melting plants in my tank. I removed the plants and leaves with the issue. 2) Little or no water flow over...

    Another Co2 Question Lol

    A) Don't worry about the Ph issue. Fish aren't as sensitive as many people make out - a Ph drop of 0.5 within 2hrs will not affect the fish. Remember in nature the Ph swings up and down during the day, and the fish are just fine. Trouble with the Internet, is there is a lot of 'speculation'...

Why Are My Plants Not Growing Too Well?

Hi, I currently have a low light 1.25w per gallon tank, and I am having trouble keeping my plants thriving. Big Sand Problem Help Now

This is what I did. Just make sure you WASH IT LOADS AND LOADS!! Not sure what could have gone wrong with your sand though, so long as you have washed it, then the water shouldn't have dis-coloured - really odd.

Anyone Use A Ups On Their Tank?

Ok, I was wondering about that. My tank is about the same size as yours - so the heater shouldn't be too much of a problem then. Will have to give it some more thought. Do you do anything to ensure an electric supply?

Anyone Use A Ups On Their Tank?

That sounds as though it would be pretty expensive. I have had a look around, and using this site: http://bugclub.org/beginners/miscellaneous/upscalc.html I calculate that I could buy a UPS that would run my filter for about 7 or 8 hours at the cost of around £100. This however wouldn't...
