My Boyfriend Bought Me A New Tank For My 19th Birthday!

Had I not been on a gap year I would've moved out. But I'm working on my gap year to save money...for uni, so also paying for my own place for a year really wouldn't have made sense.

Also they pay the bills....well I was willing to cover more than my fair share for the new tank.

And my room is the only bit of the house/home which I can call mine. I don't believe it's fair for anyone to tell me I can't have something in my room, presuming it wont impact on them of course, without justifying it.

I did the same (worked during my gap year to save up for flat/uni)... but I agree with Amunet that it is their house. It may be 'your' room but it's a room in their house. Whilst I totally agree that them not giving you advance warning or fully explaining their reasoning is unfair/ very inconvinient as i've said just you wait. In the not too distant future you will have your own place and you can have fish tanks instead of furniture if you want :) (not thati've ever made that decision.... )

Im 16, and have 2 small tanks in my room - I think the only reason my parents allowed it, was because I payed for it all.

The bad thing is - with family you can get sooo angry with them because you love them so much. I would just keep going on and on till they give in :p or hide it in your room and cover it up lol

Just think 4 months, then your in control!

Just a thought: Why dont you set it up at your boyfriends in his room?
second that
my family have no concideration

its your parents house so respect it, they have authority, im 14 and im allowed 1 tank...yeah im not happy about it, but i am grateful and make the most of what i can have.

yeah im with truck on this one, tho i agree they could have told you earlier, maybe you can set it up in you BF house?
fish keeping isnt to everyones taste and a fish tank taking up a huge space in the lounge isnt heavan to everyone.. fraid you`ll have to respect their wishes
happy birthday :)

it could be because it is upsatirs and they feel a bit weary of a tank upstairs

i'm 17 and only recently got this problem (no more space for one) i currently have 7 tanks all running in my room, as long as they are in my room my parents don't mind, although i do pay my share of the electric bill and am always buying things for my baby sister which could of swayed them

If my parents won't allow something they generally give some reason. And if I ask they usually tell me why. Then again my parents are former hippies and my mom's good enough in arguments knowing that you need to back up your statements.

I agree it's they're house, however, I also think it's kind of rude, and a bad idea to at least not provide a reason.

And Im in agreement with Amunet. Its their house/home, they pay the bills/mortgage/rent whatever, whatever age you maybe, you live under their roof, therefore you do as your told. If you dont like it, leave.

If a parent has that attitude, then that shouldn't have kids. After all, if you bringing a kid into your home, then you are also making it their home.

I found this quite interesting because my wife and I live with my parents lol!!!

I've been ill since the start of 2007 and unable to work. It sucks because now I'm a lot better and looking to get back into work I've got more chance of finding rocking horse poo! Nobody seems to want to employ a 28 year old with a degree and an HND because I've been out of work for 2 years. Fair play though I'd be warey too.

Anyway!
I managed to sneak in a Juwel Rio 125 into our Dining room. When I say sneak in, I got it home and set it up and put the water in before my mum got home. Yeah she moaned like mad for the first few days but now she's ok with it. I have a blue male guppy which she is especially fond of!

As you can tell from this post I'm kind of 28 going on 15.

I love the deep by the way. Last time we went we did the gift aid thing so now our tickets last for the whole year.
I need to go back soon for another look around. My favourite bit is the lagoon when you first get into the aquarium part.

John.

Lol...well as an update, the tank has arrived. And my parents saw me put the parcel (still all wrapped in bubble wrap and stuff) in my room. And then look a bit mopey. I've not kicked...or screamed...or shouted. However much I wanted to do all three.

Anyways...I think they're starting to feel a bit guilty now...the tank may get set-up after all. They've now decided that they are 'thinking about it' Which makes me :D. I wont get to play around with it on my birthday, but we're going in the right direction!

Getting pretty excited about my trip to the deep, and my boyfriend is still humoring me! He's such a sweetie considering he doesn't have the slightest interest in fish.

Get it set up! Thinking about it means a positive yes in my book!

It could be worse anyway. You could have a wife like mine to contend with. Every spend has to be justified and aquatics aren't exactly her no.1 priority.

Personally I'd go with beans and toast for the month if it meant I could get something for the tank.

John.

Have you been to the deep before? It's amazing. I was in there for about 5 hours but I had to read everything. Really fascinating stuff.

No I haven't been before, that's why I'm really excited. And even if my boyfriend isn't fishy, I think he'll enjoy it too.

He will. If you're not impressed by that place then you'd have to be very hard to please.

The cafe is a bit pricey but everything else is fantastic.

You can take pictures too so long as your flash is off.
