Yes do a water change to get the nitrite down to a readable level. I would add 1ppm ammonia daily from now on ... this will be enough to keep the bacteria colony alive, but you can bring it back up to 4-5ppm if that makes you happy♠.

Cough cough no you can't do this with those land plants, you're just wasting electricity. No plant will benefit from 24/7 light ... all plants need time to respire its part of their cycle. As the poster above mentioned, the only thing you'll get from 24/7 lighting is algae.

Yeah, I have WCMM and Leopard Danios in the same tank, the WCMM have produced plenty of fry, I have a tank full and that's after some Dragonfly larvae ate a couple tanks full. The Danios have done nothing and TBH I find their flowing fins to be more than annoying.

A Britta filter is a really bad idea. As you can see they are basically a waste of time ... and potentially harmful because you don't want to change your water hardness ... if I remember correctly this is done by exchanging your calcium/magnessium ions and replacing them with chloride ones.
