    Ph Crash...

I know alot of people in the fish hobby are against buffers but for the health and well being of your fishes.... you might want to see what aragonite does to your water over a few days. Aragonite acts as a PH buffer giving you a rock solid PH no matter what ( adds KH and GH too). But the cost...

    Angelfish

I noticed my Angelfish hasn't been eating lately So I Quarantined him. He has long clear(whitish) stringy poop, I did a research and I think its parasites in the stomach. I raised the Tank temp to 87 degrees and have been treating it with PraziPro ( recommended by my LFS). I'm not even sure...

    I Need A 20,000 Gallon Tank!

posted on my local site recently http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0UHIAG1JRyw&feature A look at a few more fish that were caught in my 15,000 and moved to my 52,000 The fish moved: 11 year old 33" Pterodoras granulosus (Armando, Bacu, blind cat) bought at Big Al's Aquarium Services on Dundas St...

Need Help ( Perfect Tank For Discus)

I'm also thinking of going planted very soon too. I'm just trying to think if I should go lowtech (low light) or hightech ( Co2)(high intensity light with timers). Just started my research on it and its facinating!

    Dwarf Puffers

Zebra daino's are probly the few fishes that would work with dwarf puffers in my opinion. As I stated, I had this combo for a little while now and under my observation they can't catch them. Dwarf puffers aren't built on speed, and at night they are sleeping in their nest. During bloodworm...

Substrate & German Blue Ram Health

I think we have a misunderstanding... I meant you should check your kh/gh values In your tap water and see how close they are to your tank water. The difference between the two sources can cause fish to flash after a large water change, hence the reason to add gh/kh to the new water to match...

    Power Cuts

Rofl thank god for gas water heaters ! :) I say take the backup power for tv and give the fishies a little love! :P

    Power Cuts

Word of advice! ALWAYS check water stats after a power outage! I've heard horror stories of mini-cycle after a long power outage. What I do is I usually get a battery backup charged to 80 percent at all times. When there is a power outage only plug in your filters and they should run for...

I have a pair of dwarf puffers with 4 zebra daino's and 1 marble crayfish. They've been together for over a month now and all is well.

Substrate & German Blue Ram Health

I use equilibrium myself ( more sided to planted tanks) but if you don't have any plants you can use replenish. Here is a read out of what it does and how much GH it raises with 5ml/ per 10 Gallon water. Usually I put in about 10ml as that is what I'm off by to balance my water change with my...

    Bullied?

I would have to disagree with you on that! When I put clove oil in, it put the injured fish to sleep! You can see it's gill moving slowly, then the vodka kills it while it's under! The clove oil is primary used for toothaches, so I can see how the fish won't feel anything when it's under!

Neon Fish Disease? - Cardinals, Penguins, Hatchetfish Deaths

What you could do is raise the temp( probly about 85) and add a little salt to the tank. The higher temp would help kill the parasites. But if it is neon disease then it's best to separate the infected because I don't think there is a cure for that!

    Cracked Glass

Maybe try underwater sealant for aquariums. Just dab it on and around the crack and it should seal it! Here is a link of it working! http://s1029.photobucket.com/albums/y352/munstertanks/?action=view&current=Orcasealinganaquarium.mp4

Neon Fish Disease? - Cardinals, Penguins, Hatchetfish Deaths

My advice to you is to setup a quarantine tank whenever you buy any fish! It could be as small as a 5 gallon with heater and a filter! ( always put a extra small filter foam in your current filter and transfer it whenever you pull your quarantine tank out of storage). I like to quarantine for...

Substrate & German Blue Ram Health

I have my German blue rams in caribSea aragonite Substrate, and have no issues with them. Actually at night I've seen them sleep on it with my Cory's. The only advice I have is you should check your GH and KH values in your tank vs your Tap water. If there is a huge difference then that...

    Cloudy Fish Tank (No Fish)

I have a pair of discus now for over a few months now. And they definitly make a beautiful graceful fish to watch. What I learned about discus..... 1) Always get breeder discus as your first discus attempt. They are more durable, and can take alot more water parameters then wild ones. 2)...

    Need Help, Cory Death

Yeah Np WD... I mean if it wasn't for you and the rest of this great community I would have had a lot more casualties. :) This week ended up pretty good... no deaths or sickness to report, and everybody is eating like pigs. I did get a marble crayfish for my dwarf puffer tank, and he is...

    A Few Dead Fishes Recently

Not sure if there is something I can do or check but I've been having some weird deaths recently. The weirdest one is I found a full skeleton of a cory cat( usually my fishes would tear up a dead fish in pieces) All water tested seemed good, and I have german blue rams and discus in there that...

    Need Help, Cory Death

Yeah I might have too. Yesterday was another bad day for my tank. I woke up to a bloated and eyes bulging white dwarf parrot. I quickly isolated him in the quarantine tank and started digging for info on his disease. Looks like he had Dropsy with the bulging eyes and inflated stomach. I...

    Need Help, Cory Death

Well I found a dead Cory last night and I'm not sure what killed him. He looked pretty healthy, and I know I've not noticed any weird behavior from any of my cory's yesterday. There is a slight pink color to him but doesn't look to out of the ordinary compared to other cory's. Checked my...

    Lfs Or Direct From Breeder?

I would say go with a breeder. You get to meet alot of knowledgable people in the hobby and get a pretty good price on a healthy fish. I know where I am, there is always alot of people setting up breeding tanks and then selling them when they get big enough. Also I know that some LFS actually...

    Cycling & Interpet Filter Aid

The bacteria booster they give you at LFS won't work. The best way is to get a solid filter media from a established tank. The funny thing is that my LFS has a huge 400 gallon empty tank surrounded with over 10 HOB and canister filters running to show the flow rate. I was telling them to add...

A Quick Question About 'emergency Tanks.'

I just throw in some extra bio rings in a net inside my penguin 350B. Whenever I need it, I just pull it out and throw it into my quaratine filter media slot. I've got it set up now where I have a 2 gallon tank empty and whenever i need it, I just pull it out, fill it with water, hook up the...

How Often Should I Feed My Catfish Algae Wafer

I usually feed my cory's sinking wafers at night, just because all my fishes eat everything and usually nothing is left at the bottom. If you are sure that the cory is getting left over food, then throw in one sinking wafer once every 2 days.

    Cycling & Interpet Filter Aid

I always wonder why no LFS think about maybe putting a huge community tank together with healthy fish they've raised for a long time, have it hooked up to a huge canister filter and give out free filter media for people buying a whole set up including fish. Everytime they sell a whole set up...

    Fish Dying

Nice looking tank.... I think its just other fishes eating your dead fish fins. If it was fin rot you would see a slow decay of the fins.

    What's Your Feeding Schedule?

I feed one big meal a day, and a few little snacks once in awhile.( 2-3 floating pellets) The big meal I usually mix frozen bloodworms, frozen brineshrimp, a few tropical flakes, and cichlids pellets and mash it up in a small cup with tank water. Then I use a medicine dropper to suck it up and...

    Filter Swap - Media Question

Yeah should be no problem on just adding it to your tank. What I would do is maybe put it in a stocking(net) and weigh it down close to your filter intake(this way some of the good bacteria gets sucked up into your new filter). Why I think your should use a stockings is when things start...

    Snail Problem

I would suggest 4 pea puffers in your 20 gallon tank. They will hunt down your snails in no time and when your are certain there is no more snails, they are easy to re-home if you don't want them anymore! There is very good demand for dwarf puffers!

    Heater Problems

Yeah if you want to get good temp a lid is a great idea. A massive amount of heat is lost without a lid.. maybe look into getting a lid for your fluval chi tank. As for your 10 gallon try putting both thermometer close to each other and check out the readings. You might be getting different...

    Heater Problems

Are there lids in all your tanks? Alotof heat is lost if there isn't ! Second is to make sure your heater is as close to the filter output as possible! And I gotta ask the question on why so hot too? Unless you got a few baby discus?

    A Pair Of Oscars :(

I'm located in Vancouver, Canada. I've called a few lfs and even the one I'm dealing with but they said they can't take them because of their size and scars. I wouldn't want to see these guys suffer in the hands of a lfs too! I've thinking if I should set up the left side of my kitchen sink...
