I have a male Triple Red Cockatoo and a Male Sunset Gourami in a 10g tank. I keep the water quality in check, and feed regularly. The male cockatoo went from swimming all over the place to hiding in a upturned flower pot over the past 2 months. Last time I saw him out he did not look sick (except for one eye looking larger than the other). I treated with a med, and it appeared to have worked. He did not have any signs of parasites ect. Well, now he wont come out for anything. Not even food, he just sits there, you can see his face from the outside of the pot. The gourami has become more colorful and "cocky" so to speak. Is it possible that the gourami is bullying him?

Maybe try to put a little sinking cichlid pellet under the pot where he hides. If he doesn't eat that then you might have something going on with him.

He is now dead. I came down to take a look at him and I saw him halfway out of the pot, struggling to swim, and his color was changing into gray (like they do when they die). He didn't have a chance, so I threw him outside (there is 5 inches of snow out, so he "went to sleep"). I did not see any illness on his body. Weird.

A change in color usually indicates stress... And freezing it isn't the way to go! I use Clove oil and vodka.

See, the thing is we do not own clove oil. We also do not have any liquor, my family and I do not drink. Therefore, it was either the toilet or the snow. Stress ie. dying. I think that'd be pretty stressful. The poor guy could barely swim.

clove oil isnt humane either. it causes the fish to suffer. the best way is to catch it, put it in a bag, and smash it against something hard, like a wall or a brick, making sure it goes head first, assuring that it dies immideatly

I would have to disagree with you on that! When I put clove oil in, it put the injured fish to sleep! You can see it's gill moving slowly, then the vodka kills it while it's under! The clove oil is primary used for toothaches, so I can see how the fish won't feel anything when it's under!
