How big is your tank?

I woke up this morning, turned on my fish tank light to look into my tank and I see my betta lodged in the filter. It’s a 5 gallon tank, and the opening to the filter is very small. Somehow, my filter has stopped working and my betta has found his way in through the tiny opening and got stuck...

They are unnecessary, if there is no reason for you to be doing extra water changes 50% once a week should be fine.

You could open your own hairdressers...sort of! You could get all the equipment needed to cut hair properly and do an honest donations box.. but i’m not sure how covid-19 friendly this is because you would need to wash the equipment after every use.

My betta is a monster, he literally eats or attacks anything that goes into his tank. I added 8 shrimp and he slowly picked them off...

Pea puffers!! I don’t know many people with them but they are the cutest and one of the most interactive fish I have ever kept.

Are you referring to Java fern? If so I would just leave it to grow, it will look better in the end.

This is most definitely a fungus. I would recommend doing large water changes daily and giving medication. API fungal cure would do the trick.

You could get a larger group of barbs, therefore the harassment would be between the barbs and not the other fish.

Thanks for the advice, hopefully it doesn’t smell because it is going to be in my bedroom :Sbut I will make sure to discard old cultures to try and prevent this from happening.

I’ve heard they can smell bad. Do your culture/s smell bad?

Has anyone ever cultured microworms? I have ordered a start culture and I hope to branch it into two cultures. I know what to do, I think :thumbs:but does anyone have any advice and/or ideas for the best way to do this?

I wanted to do this before but it is extremely pricy, you need “live rock” or “live sand” I believe, but apparently you may need both. I don’t know if this is true but I have heard this.

I was considering this and did try it for a while, however instead of a tank I used a plastic tub with a filter but it wasn’t very attractive and ended up being quite bad smelling. Plus, I’m only a kid so trying to find ways to persuade my parents into yet another tank is going to be tough...

I am also a fish keeper in the UK and yes! Fish keeping is extremely expensive over here I paid £120 for a 15 gallon tank, and £60 for a 5 gallon. Your average betta costs about £20 and neon tetras are even £4 a piece at my LFS. I also find this issue when keeping insects and other similar...

The only issue I have with snails is I only have one other tank which I occasionally get trumpet snails and bladder snails breeding but usually the eggs just get eaten. They never increase in numbers fast enough to keep up with my hungry puffers!

Thank you @Byron for helping, I will purchase one of the products you mentioned and update you if it helps. As for food I will look into alternatives but at the minute I am quite limited as to what I am able to buy, but I will try and order online.

The tank brand is “Aqua” and it has a built in 10W LED light. I feed my dwarf puffers a 1/8 of a cube of frozen blood worms once per day.

My tank is 15 gallons and currently houses 4 juvenile pea puffers. I have several plants in the tank with them, including anubias hastifolia, cyperus helferii, microsorum pteropus, hygrophila pinnatifida and echinodorus ozelot red and a bunch of hornwort. So my issue is they become algae covered...

A single betta would look great in a ten gallon.

Yeah, there are some tiny mantis which will only get to 3cm but I believe ghost mantis can grow to 5cm, with males being slightly smaller and my other mantis, which is a giant asian mantis can actually grow to 9cm which is huge!!!

These are a species which can live communal without the risk of eating each other, but for now i’m keeping them separate until they get older.

Your lfs will most likely test your water for you if you bring a sample in.

You could try gumtree, ebay or pets4homes.

It just looks like a lifted scale from a small injury to me. Maybe from a decoration or an aggressive tank mate.

You could put in a little bottle with an opening small enough for the barbs to not be able to get in, but for the khulis to get in and put food for them in there.

Just to add to this, you will need to start saving for a bigger tank as these puffers can grow to 16+ inches. It is best to keep them in a 120gallon+ even when they are young to prevent stunting. If you can, upgrade to a larger tank.
