Parasites? Missing fish? Filter problems? Snail problem?

Hi everyone, I did some more research, and could there be a possibility that the parasites are anchor worms? Lernaea - (Anchor Worms) They look very similar and they are much more common so it would explain why they appeared in the aquarium, because the aquarium is indoors and damselflies are...

Parasites? Missing fish? Filter problems? Snail problem?

Yep, I do that regularly. I read the instructions to the filter again and I realised that every three months you need to dissemble the filter and clean inside - I have never done this, so this might be what is causing the problem. Thanks. :)

Parasites? Missing fish? Filter problems? Snail problem?

Oh no... I found another one yesterday but I fished it out and haven't seen any since. I actually do have fry, but they aren't that small anymore. Last week we had really hot weather so that might explain why they hatched in the tank. I do have a sickly looking plant, but in came from a...

Parasites? Missing fish? Filter problems? Snail problem?

Thank you, I'll remove any that I see. Yes, unfortunately the snails have gotten out of hand...thank you for the snail trap idea! Not sure what is wrong with the filter... I have thought about changing the carbon filter to a sponge before but I was using it after medication, but that was a while...

Parasites? Missing fish? Filter problems? Snail problem?

Hi, Wasn’t sure where to post this as it’s a mix of things but I put it here. So I went away for a few weeks, and it was cleaned 2 times during this time. My tank has been running and stocked for a few months now. When I came back, I noticed a few problems. 1) Parasites? When cleaning the...

Thank you. I’ll add some more.

Fish with a swollen tail - dropsy or not?

Hi. Thanks so much for your help @Colin_T . I just bought aquarium salt along with some other stuff for my nitrite problems. It says put 1 heaped tablespoon for 20 litres of water....you said put 2. What should I do? Maybe this salt is more powerful? I’m only going to put 1 in pet 20l now, I’ll...

Fish with a swollen tail - dropsy or not?

Hi. Thank you so much for replying, this explains why the fish doesn't want to use her tail to swim with. :( Should I buy a special aquarium salt or can I use normal table salt? I read that you can use normal table salt as long as it doesn't have additives and iodine........ but I'm not sure...

Fish with a swollen tail - dropsy or not?

Hi. So yesterday I noticed one of my fish looked a little strange, but couldn’t really figure out what is was. Today I noticed that she wasn’t active and had a little bit of a swollen tail. It also seems like she has pinecone scales, but they aren’t really raised, and only a little, on the...

    Ask Questions About Cycling

Hi. I would wait a little and see if they stay this way. I had these levels and then I got some fish, and after a few days my nitrites became really high, so its better to be safe than sorry. Have you had your "bacterial bloom" yet? It normally happens in tanks. It's when all the good bacteria...

    Really high nitrites...any suggestions?

Thank you. I feed about 2 times a day, my fish always seem hungry, but I'll stick to feeding less every time for now.

Betta Fish Breathing Heavily + Laying at the Bottom of Tank

Hi. I agree with most of the stuff above. I think Betta do usually need a heater, (unless you live in a very hot country or the tank is near a radiator). Betta fish are tropical fish. I highly recommend getting a treatment, you can get fairly cheap ones - I got a treatment for only just over £3...

Betta Fish Breathing Heavily + Laying at the Bottom of Tank

Hi, So, without the water parameters we can't really be 100% sure of anything :( A bubble nest is part of the breeding process so I doubt that would mean much/affect the illness. Are you using dechlorinator to clean the tap water? Is your tank cycled? It's better to test the water before...

Betta Fish Breathing Heavily + Laying at the Bottom of Tank

Hi. Unfortunately breathing heavily and lying at the bottom of a tank is most likely ammonia poisoning. It could not be, I'll read the post over again, but since you don't have a test kit yet its just safe to assume. You should probably change half more of the water right now, even if its not...

    Really high nitrites...any suggestions?

Thanks - sorry if that came across as rude :) To be honest, my nitrates are quite high - 15 ppm. But I think that I can get them down along with the nitrites, I'll keep you all updated.

Nitrite, as mentioned in the title. :)

    Really high nitrites...any suggestions?

Thanks! Also, By saying this - I am not saying my fish are fine - 10ppm is not okay for them - I want to do all that I can help, and I don't want them to suffer. The weird thing is that my fish don't look poorly (again, I'm not saying they are fine) they are swimming fine, not gulping for...

Hi. I'll link some info about cycling - don't worry though, at first I was confused too! Really high nitrites...any suggestions?

Hi. So after changing 50% of the water today, I measured my water levels and I noticed that my nitrites are really high - 10ppm! They have not been like this before, my fish tank was always fine. I'm quite worried for my fish, I don't want them to be stressed - let alone die. :( I've...

New tropical fish tank aquarium- Aqua One Oakstyle 230L

Hi! The tank looks nice. :yahoo: Yep, the plants look sparse, its probably because they are young. Is that Vallisneria? I was really excited to have it in my tank but unfortunately mine didn't grow much. Are you getting more plants? It would be good to get some for background, midground and...

New tropical fish tank aquarium- Aqua One Oakstyle 230L

Hi. Congrats on your new tank! :) Do you know how you will be stocking it? :fish: I think you have set up the heater right, you position it diagonally, but if I were you I would set it up just a little bit more vertical (just a little bit). If I understand correctly, your filter is not an...

Tiny moving dots in shrimp tank

I agree with Salty&Onion. Cyclops is one of the most common genera of freshwater copepods. Copepods often just appear in your tank and begin to thrive. As Salty&Onion said, to get rid of them vacuum your substrate as they often lay eggs there and generally like to bury themselves in the...

Tiny moving dots in shrimp tank

Yep, but it matters how small the dots are...I attached a photo of my copepods and people saw. But they might not even be copepods, so I guess you are right. :)
