Fluval FX4 intake tube is too long

Yeah, "that strainer is too dam large", so I removed it and replaced it with some black foam instead. Kinda hard to see in this pic:

Why don't corys like black sand?

This is just a personal observation, and not scientific... I have maybe 50 Corys in multiple tanks, all on black sand and they seem completely fine and healthy.

    75g Filtration

Hello fellow Michigander. The HOBs seem like they would be fine while you search for something bigger like this: https://grandrapids.craigslist.org/for/d/ferrysburg-fluval-fx5-canister-filter/7464816897.html I have a used FX6 on my 75 gallon and it moves plenty of water!

What are these little spore-like… things?

Use at your own risk, but this worked for me in a tank with only CPDs: https://www.aquariumadvice.com/forums/f12/step-by-step-how-to-kill-planaria-and-hydra-231872.html Unfortunately, I must be doing something wrong, because they keep coming back.

    Breeding assassin snails

If you have something other than a foam filter, you will want to cover your intake with a sponge. It's not unusual for me to find hundreds of baby assassins in my filter when I clean it.

    Breeding assassin snails

    1. If I see a good deal on frozen cocktail shrimp, I'll buy those for my assassins. They also really like Tetra shrimp wafers for catfish and loaches.

Injecting Co2 directly into Fluval FX canister filter?

I currently have it right under the outlet. I've had a hard time finding an inline diffuser for the big FX6 hoses. I think ID is one inch.

Are windex and ethanol safe to use?

I spray Windex on a microfiber cloth (not near the aquarium) and then wipe down the outside of the glass with the damp cloth. My fish seem to live forever.

Injecting Co2 directly into Fluval FX canister filter?

Has anyone tried this? My concern is that the Fluval does it's "air purge" thing once in a while and I'm concerned that it would overdose the aquarium with Co2. Thanks!

Is one Double Sponge Water Filter big enough for lightly stocked 10 gallon

Hi all, Thanks for reading. I have three ten gallon tanks and each one has two double sponge water filters in them. I would like to simplify and use just one filter in each. Does that seem adequate? Tank one: 3 Celestial Pearl Danios and a few Assassin Snails Tank two: 2 mystery snails and the...

    New filter with existing hob

This is just anecdotal, but I have done exactly what you are talking about with a 10 gallon, a 30 gallon, and a 75 gallon. I had no problems.

    White Covering on Fish

Ammonia: 0 Nitrite: 0 Nitrate: Maybe 2-3 PH: 7.4 to 7.5 Did a 75% plus change yesterday Squeezed out the filter in tank water about two weeks ago. Will do it again. Thank you for the help. If it's excess mucous, will that take care of itself with better water quality?

    White Covering on Fish

The tank had a lot of plants in it, but I removed a bunch while I'm trying to figure out what is going on. Just trying to keep everything as clean as possible right now. When I get the disease figured out, I can move plants from another tank, back into this one. :)

    White Covering on Fish

Three of the six Danios show white on them. It's not just a "saddle shape". A couple of them are basically covered in it. I might have added some plants from my overgrown 75 gallon tank (that does not show any disease) about a month ago or so.

    White Covering on Fish

I have never heard of that disease. Thanks for the information. I have not added anything recently.

    White Covering on Fish

(I am not including water parameters yet, as I just finished a 75% plus water change, but I can add them later.) This tank is about 30 gallons and has been up and running well for about two years. It currently holds 6 Celestial Pearl Danios, 4 Cory Cats and a few Mystery Snails. The Danios...

    White film in water surface

You bet. I am using this powerhead as it fits a water bottle opening, but it looks like it is no longer available: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005QRHT88/?tag=ff0d01-20 There are plenty of videos out there to show you how to make this, but this is how I did it. Cut the bottom off a water...

    White film in water surface

I have no idea what this, however, I've had success cleaning up surface gunk with DIY surface skimmers. They are made from a power head, a water bottle, and filter floss (or something similar). If you need a pic of my setup, let me know.

How long do you think it will take fore my driftwood to sink?

That driftwood looks amazing. There's so many curves in that thing, that it should be possible to wedge it in the substrate and set a rock on it to keep it there. Maybe a small pile of rocks would look more natural?

Filters for large (over 75 gallon) tanks

I'm currently using a fluval fx6 on a 75 gallon and I've reduced the flow by probably a 3rd because it was too much. It should do well on a 90 gallon :-) I've also had multiple susnsun 304b filters. The build quality is not super great, but they move a lot of water and hold a lot of media. It...

It did spread out to about three times it's original size, but stayed hovering on the bottom. Not flat on the bottom, but not floating in the middle or the top, either.

I dropped a golf ball sized clump of java moss in my aquarium three weeks ago. It sank to the bottom and stayed there.
