Platie with a dull patch on her head

Ok, it is an hour now since I took her out of the salt bath. She seemed to be breathing pretty quickly when I put her back in, but is behaving a bit better now. How long would it take before she acts normally again? I have put some salt in the main tank too as it only has guppies & platies. I...

Platie with a dull patch on her head

She doesn't seem to be rubbing or flicking, just hiding. My quarantine tank at the moment has my Betta in it (he isn't quarantined, just needed a new home). Could I put my beautiful platie in tupperware for quarantine? She has just lost all of her playfulness and is just hiding behind an...

Platie with a dull patch on her head

Hi all, noticed today that my favourite platie (who has been behaving anti-socially) has developed a spot on her head that is not shiny like the rest of her. It doesn't look fuzzy or anything. The water is all in normal parameters, all the other fish are behaving fine. She did come up for...

    Adding bottomdwellers

Hi all, I started with this tank the last week of December, and learned the hard way about cycling. Thankfully I did have a tank that learned was cycled, and I was able to speed things up  Anyway, this 5g (us gallon that is) tank has been fully cycled for about 3 weeks and the...

    Fuzzy tail on my betta

Hi all, I have a betta in a 2.5 gallon tank. He has been there for about 1 week, previously he had been in a smaller bowl/tank at our restaurant. I thought he was doing well - his colour is good, he is active, but I just noticed that he has a furry/fuzzy bit on the end of his tail. What do I...

    Moved gravel from cycled tank

Hi all, I have moved a stocking of gravel (as suggested) from my old tank to the new one. My question is ~ was it a pointless move because I had turned off the filter/air pump in the old tank (before teh move was suggested) and it had been off for about 12-14hrs. I turned it back on as soon as...

    Cycling tank

Thanks Yvez, I can do that. One question first though - I turned the filter off last night (12-14hrs ago), will the good bacteria still be alive?

    Betta basics and care

Regarding tank size - does anyone know why fish shops are marketing fighting fish as 'great for your desk or bedside table' and selling containers that would hold no more than 750 mls that are specifically made for Betta's? I am feeling awful about being sucked in and having one of these little...

    very paranoid newbie

ok, I have just read the thing about cycling again. I am feeling very blonde today (no offence intended to blondes in general :) ) and need to know, what do I actually need to DO. The pinned cycle thing in the beginner questions just lists readings and that kind of thing..... Feel free to...
