No need to be sad anymore...

YOU know him better than I do....you're free to name him! You come up with the best!

With air pumps/bubblebars I ain't got a clue.....but I had planned on getting something, just due to what you said about the icky water when sitting still all the time. But clueless me, I figured it might stress him out a bit, being under the weather, and being at the store for at least as long as you said! Poor guy, he would have been there when I got my CT too....

I think there's a bit of hope too, since he's been this way for so long...(it's so nice that you know all this.....otherwise I may not have gone to get him.) This boy ain't givin' up yet.....I took a few more pics, to show what he's like...but tonight, he has gone on quick little swimming trips from this side, over to the other, then back again. But he likes this corner.....maybe because he can look at someone? I dunno....anyway....

Please don't mind the bubbles...........seems after awhile they went away in my CT's tank, so imagine eventually they will this one too! Here's how he will sit up...

Aaah, the poor little guy.
At least now he has the room to go take a little spin around if he wants to.
I'll have to think long and hard about a name.
Hmm...
I'm not really sure about the bubble bar yet either.
I think I have an extra one of those laying around here too.
I'll see.

I bet he's so happy right now that he's not sitting on that shelf in that nasty little cup anymore!

Is he eating?

Hmm...
take a look at this photo of Jasper when he was sick:

Looks somewhat familiar?
(He's got himself propped up against the plant in this picture)

Jasper sure colored up. Or was there just not much lighting on him at that point? What did Jasper have wrong with him?

What do you suspect is wrong with the new rescue?

His coloring is REALLY good for a sick fish.
Exactly :)
That's another thing that's got me hopeful.
I can't wait to get out there and study him to see if we can figure out just what might be ailing him.
I might start him right off with tetracycline so we don't treat him with/for the wrong thing.

Anyone else have any suggestions about what could be ailing him and/or how to treat him?

Jasper REALLY REALLY colored up.
He was completely grey with very slight shades of light blue in him. He had NO red on him when I got him. In fact, the fact that he was such a dull color was part of the reason I got him. I figured that for one thing no one would want such an ugly colored betta, and another I figured he was probably really sick to have lost that much color.

He ended up having acute viral hemmoraghic septicemia, which I treated with Maracyn Two. Funny because I didn't figure out what he had until he was starting to feel better. I just took a chance and started off treating him with Maracyn Two. I noticed a blood spot under his eye during his first water change and after the water change is when I noticed he started swimming in a straight line and wasn't darting, and hasn't been lethargic for 5 minutes since then.

When he was sick, he laid on the bottom of the tank and could barely get to the top of the tank for air. 3fsh sent him some hornwort so he could hang out near the top of the tank which helped out OODLES.

With the new guy, my first inclination is something along the lines of septicemia, too, although with his coloring it's hard to tell if he's got red streaks or spots - he's got a lot of red on him.

We might start him right out w/tetracycline just to make sure we cover our bases but I'm sure I'll be doing a ton of research tomorrow at work.

Oooh, here's another shot of Jasper the day I got him - he was making his way around the tank for one lap before he collapsed to the bottom to stay. This photo was taken w/the same camera, same angle, same lighting, everything's the same as the photo in my signature. Amazing how their color comes around when they're healthy eh? :)

Don't lemme git you fired, BM! Research at work...lol
I'm gonna tie my hands up now....no more pics....after these...lol
Here's the tank I threw together when I picked him up...
It's a cute little 2.5G glass tank....

LOL
They'd probably come on over and ask me if I was ill or something if I wasn't spending enough time on TFF or searching for fishy things.

That tank is just marvelous for him! Just exactly like what I have for Jasper, Harvey and Charlie. I'll bring him some special little surprises tomorrow

yay!

Those pics of Jasper are amazing!! Wow! Whatta difference. Seems this guy here is acting the same way Jasper was. No, he didn't take an interest in a little food at all tonight. I just tried a tiny bit, because I really figured he'd not eat.
Look how beautiful he is though....sick or not...

Yeah, I couldn't believe the day Jasper lost his stress bars and started swimming around after his first water change after the round of M2 meds. It was like a totally different fish appeared before my eyes. He is so happy and healthy now - he has got attitude that won't stop and he LOVES me. :)

The new guy does have wonderful colors.
That's another reason I looked at him right off the bat @ the store - he's like a little rainbow wrapped up in a slimy little cute package! heh

I'll bring along some frozen blood worms tomorrow, also
If Liza will eat them, I'm betting he'll give them a try too. NO fish can resist them. But, Jasper didn't eat until several days after he came to live with me either. I started cheering at my desk the day he ate his first pellet. Everyone, once again, thought I was nuts.
You know - I never noticed any floating pellets in his cup, did you?
I wonder if he was eating while he was at the store? Cuz I'm pretty sure they don't do very frequent water changes in those cups...

omg the poor thing!

Well, with the two of you helping him out I have no doubt that he'll be better in no time at all! Jeez, even skipping out on work, BM!

Then again, I've skipped a class or two before to get meds for a sick fish..
