Hi all,
I picked up a new female on Friday, and was just curious what tail-type she might be? I'm sure that she's not aveil, as her tail has the double branching. I thought at first she might might be a crown tail, but her bottom (anal?) fin doesn't have the long protrusions. I really apologize for the horrible pic, but she was not very cooperative, and insisted on hiding in the decoration :/
Second, I also notice that she's missing half of one of her ventral fins. Just wondering if this could be a natural deformity?

Second pic, equally as bad. My camera is horrible...complicated by the fact that she's super active :)

You're sure she has double branching, not just one branch? Check my pinned article if you're unsure, it might help. Anyways, if it branches twice she's got some halfmoon/delta lines in her, and is probably delta herself. She isn't a crowntail unless her dorsal and anal show the trait also. Lots of females seem to look a little "crowny" though - most of mine do. As far as missing half of one her ventrals, that could certainly be just how she is - my male Betta falx is that way. They're that way since birth, and the reasoning behind why the ventrals never fully developed is still argueable.

I thought when they were missing ventrals it was from being nipped off in grow out tanks. Do those grow back?

SRC - Actually, some breeders think that missing ventrals may be due to resting on the bottom of tanks and a bacteria destroys the fins. This is not known for sure though. :dunno: If the ventrals are nipped off, they will usually grow back, but if they're lost from the bacteria (or whatever it may be), they won't.

See how his left ventral is not fully developed? He's always been that way. :)

hmmm..how interesting. I saw a auction on Aquabid a few days ago for a fish that mentioned he had no ventrals at all. I thought that odd..maybe that is what happened to him as well. Poor fishies.

Here's a good pic of whater her tail is like (not her, of course)
I need to just stop going near any place that sells fish for a while...she brings my betta count to 9, lol. She's my 3rd Walmart girl...found her tucked away on the counter, close to the sink, behind some empty cups, not on the shelves where they're usually displayed. I wonder why. Not only is she just a gorgeous deep blue, but big! as big, if not bigger than most of my males!
Thanks for the opinion, most appreciated :) I assumed she wasn't a veil, because the rest of my veil girls have a..smoother, rounded tail, if that makes sense. I was hysr curious if she might be something rare for my Walmart, lol
