So lately I’ve been busy as hell helping my immobile senior dog after he got a fever and got weak and he had to go to vet and needs almost constant help for now until he feels better and, I couldn't take care of my betta and I missed a water change day and Ive been in fish cycling since jan 16, doing daily water changes and, my hair grass was slowly dying but, I suspect these past couple of days died more because I went to take care of my fish and his water has lots of particles so I removed the hairgrass and vacumed some where it was and water changed 30% 10 gal and the particles look smaller today than yesterday Im not sure what I can do other than test the water or vacuum more and water change today Again. Idk when my mom will go to the pet store with me again, but it probally gonna have to be mostly for my dog unfortunately, I was gonna atleast try to get him another food to try and a hide and some filter floss if I can.

Hair grass is not a true aquatic plant and does better in the garden.

Just keep doing water changes and gravel cleans when you can. It will clear up eventually.

I hope your dog gets better soon :)

When was the last time you cleaned the filter? What kind of media do you have in the filter?

Maybe I should wash it in the tank water but my filter is tetra iq 5-10 gal and, it has the starter carbon cart the, bio grid plastic part and, some imaginarum filter sponge I added to the end to quiet and polish things off.

Hard to tell from the filter pic, but I would look at replacing the cartridge with additional foam and some poly batting. Foam lasts forever and the batting is cheap as dirt from Hobby Lobby or online. Just change the batting each water change.
Set it up so the water flows from from intake->foam->poly. A pre-filter on the intake may also help a bit.

I haven't cleaned yet I just check it for stinkbugs and flies alot

Put some.polywool in your filter which will 'polish' the water.

Here's a diy how to on making one (youd only have this in temporarily until the water clears up)

I have panty hose on half the intake I thought it would help to leave some not covered

The sponge won't polish but will help reduce splashing.

Ditch the cart. After gutting the filter, put in sponge, poly batting, and maybe some bio rings on top if there is room.
A pre-filter will also help with bio filtering.

If you have a large enough sponge pre-filter and the bottom of your inlet is near the top of the filter, it shouldn't reduce the flow by much.

If I were to order craft stuff to replace my filter do I have to take the current cartridge apart off the frame then fold it over and put a elastic or something and keep it in the tank ?
