Also, I think I may have got a rather nasty invasive pest anemone..?

(It’s near the bottom of the rock)

Oooooo what is that one called? I see the anemone, is that bad?
It’s a Palythoa grandis. Here is it open:

The anemone is an Aiptasia, which is bad for tanks, as they take over very quickly and sting everything. Pretty, but dangerous.

I am going to try the injected lemon juice/hydrogen peroxide in the morning. If that doesn’t work, I will probably use super glue.

I have to keep it in the bag for now, or else the nem might reproduce before I can eradicate it...

DO you use chiller for your reef tank ? Wonders whats the best not oversize chiller around.
Definitely not. Most saltwater livestock are tropical, so getting a chiller in the tank would most likely shock and kill them.

Ohhhhhhhh ok. That coral is gorgeous though!!!

Why are you changing the light?
I’m afraid it won’t be powerful enough for the anemone, once I get it. Also, I don’t want to be held back in getting any type of coral, because my lighting is to weak.

The PAR is also low.
Who told you the light won't be powerful enough for anemones?
Anemones and corals get the same light in the wild. If your corals are good, the anemone should be good.

An easy way to tell if anemones are getting enough light is to look at their tentacles and disc. If they go green, there is heaps of light. The green is symbiotic algae living in their cells.

--------------------
If you decide to keep seahorses, make sure you get captive bred. Seahorses collected from the wild are incredibly hard to keep in captivity.
All seahorses, pipefish and sea dragons sold in shops should be captive bred due to CITES declaring them as endangered at the beginning of this century (2002?)

----------
If you choose to keep seahorses, start culturing live foods for them so they have a variety of things to eat. Rotifers, Mysis shrimp and glass shrimp are all eaten by bigger seahorses. Newly hatched brineshrimp are eaten by everything.

In Malaysia you might be better off just using an airconditioner in the room with the aquarium because chiller units can be expensive to buy and run in hot climates. It's basically a refrigerator for aquariums and the tank/s aren't insulated so they have to do a lot of work to keep tanks cool in hot climates.

If I wanted to get stony corals, I would need a more powerful light. I figured I would upgrade now while I had the chance.

The corals I have so far are doing good, although the zoa is pale... is this because it doesn’t have enough light?

Correction: It’s a Cinnamon Palythoa grandis.

Here is it open and in the tank!

(I placed it in there at a terrible angle, but I’m about to move it anyway)

I’m also about to kill the Aiptasia, using the super glue method. Fingers crossed that it works and kills it! ? ?

For some reason I wasn’t getting notifications for this thread?. Tank looks really good! Love the coral as well! Hopefully you kill the anenome.
Thanks!

This anemone is pretty, but it is invasive and dangerous for my livestock/coral.

I’m about to go up and glue it... wish me luck!

Absolutely murdered that hideous creature.

Did a little rearranging!
F2C639F8-C91D-40D4-BCEB-24102AFCC82E.jpeg

Cleaned the glass (inside and outside) and cleaned the fake nem.

Moved the mushroom up on a shell, so it has more surface room for the split. It looks like it will split soon!

I moved the cinnamon on the rock work. It’s much happier! :p

I also added the zoa’s on the rock work as well, closer to the lights:
