I sincerely hope you get some small discus-fish after all the trouble you've been through!

Ah, Bonjour.....a little

Soixante-neuf is just the ticket my friend! Unfortunately I am stuck at work in the Solomon Islands until 10th March​

. So my fish are in the fine care(and no doubt being spoiled rotten) of my girlfriend. However, she did send me news of a couple of great pairs waiting for me at the fish farm, and also photos of another pair getting fruity in the main tank. It was the pair of Turks I tried before, but it seems they only like to do it in front of others! Naughty guys!

So I will be back and giving it everything in a couple of weeks from now.......See ya then

Home again at last.....and here's where we are.....

The eggs that those 2 laid in the main tank were all gobbled up, during the attack of the flying Tetras! They never stood a chance in there. However I was on my way home, and in transit at Sydney airport, when my girlfriend text me to say that the fish were at it again in the main tank. I got home very late and went off to bed. Following morning the two parents were guarding the eggs that they had laid on a piece of bog wood, and they looked intent on keeping them safe. I doubted they would make it if I left the eggs in there, so decided to try and move them to the love tank. The weather here in Asia is now well into its settled hot stage, and the temperatures sit constantly between 28-35C day and night, so I chose to set up the breeding tank outside and away from disturbance. This means that I can have the tank set without the need for the heater, because indoors the air-conditioning runs at around 24C and I would need to heat the tank. So the water is now sat at a nice consistent 28C.....perfect

I was worried that the disturbance of moving the fish, might cause them to stress out and eat their eggs. So I took the female first and left dad with his eggs. I let her settle for an hour or so, and then I grabbed the egg covered bog wood, and moved it to join mum. I then waited another hour before moving dad, and it seemed to work perfectly, as the pair went straight back to tending the eggs.

Last night the eggs hatched and the parents gathered their little guys and huddled them together on the back of the wood. They are looking strong and the parents are being very attentive. So happy days at the moment.

The fish farm have got the pair of blues for me, and I will pick those guys up on Thursday, and put them in the second breeding tank. Then no doubt, after all the effort, end up with more fry than I know what to do with

Thank you, and I have said this a dozen times, BUT I feel confident this time. The parents are constantly hovering just millimeters from the wrigglers, and with no guard have not been tempted to eat any yet. Their behavior is so good. Both fish have turned very dark in colour, which is a good sign that they are ready to feed their babies. I hope we will soon be sharing the journey of these little guys, from squirt to sprat to beautiful "TFF Fish of the month March 2013"

All still looking good today, and the little wrigglers look super strong. Mum and Dad are constantly staring at them . They should go free swimming within the next 48 hours........Come on little dudes!

I think the signs are good this time though.

The little guys started to jump around, and were causing havoc. So mum gathered them all up and moved them to the foam of the filter! They aren't causing havoc now as they are on the vacuum bed!!

Dad has a couple stuck on his back, so it is really really looking good! I so hope this time they will make it all the way

Too bad we don't have little vacuum walls to stick our kids on when they are being bad. "One more tantrum, and you're going on the wall!"

I'm feeling it man! They are the best parents, taking such good care of the fry. They are very mature big fish, and I am now certain that my Pigeon Bloods are just too young. Also helps having the tank outside and away from noise and movement. Although I got a little nervous today, as we had a bit of a hot day(35C) and the water temp crept up to 30C. So I cranked the air up and added an extra air stone to get the water moving and help evaporation to stop the water getting too hot. Also rigged up an umbrella with some string and clothes pegs suspended over the tank to keep it shaded...... My girlfriend thinks I have finally lost it and gone completely nuts ........I am starting to think she could be right! Wibble!!!
