Hmn..I wish I had that problem!!! I am more likely to need a hot water bottle & electric blanket for my fish!!!

On a positive note I have got my discus arriving in 3 weeks time - all thanks to you and this amazing thread! I just hope mine all turn out to be as good as yours!

ps. What happened to the Solomon Islands write up???

Too bad we don't have little vacuum walls to stick our kids on when they are being bad. "One more tantrum, and you're going on the wall!"

Velcro jump suits, and fluffy wall paper! I see a business plan

...... split it with you 50/50, and use your kids for demonstrations and advertising!?

Shark Tank/Dragons Den????!!!! Or would it be a bit un-PC?

 I don't know. Anyone who has had a two year old would like it, I think. lol

Sorry mate, was too tired and lazy. Was so dam hot and long hard days teaching the police EOD team on armored plant to remove vegetation ahead of searching for bombs and munitions. Did knock up a short video for them which I took there though......

hoping mum and dad dont much them up this time

To be fair, if they were planning a snackin' I am hoping it would have already happened. Ironically, and unlike before, because of the wiggly wood they laid their eggs on I have had the eggs and fry without the guard! The parents are being great

its great news. what will you do with the fry if they are successfully raised ?

My original plan was to grow them on until they reached a couple of inches, and then swap them with the Discus farm for one or two high grade fish. However, I am currently looking at buying a new house with heaps of space, and have plans for a monster tank(don't want to get ahead of myself), and if everything goes to plan then I will move at the end of this year, so I hope to have a select number of my own bred fish for my big tank. I am planning a 600 gallon planted amazon tank.....sounds nuts, but when I get something in my head I won't stop until I reach it. When it happens I promise to blog it here

Please do it!

Think of all the people who can't ^^

Stupid question; what kind of water do you use for your discus tank?
R/O water? peat? you just live next to a 'blackwater river'?

I will, I promise. Not only do I absolutely live and love this hobby, but I am now fortunate enough to be in a position to fulfill my desires. It can't happen until the end of the year as I cannot move house at the mo'.

My tap water isn't bad. I wouldn't drink it!, but it is free from chlorine and other nasty stuff, that fish hate, as it goes through basic treatment. I have an RO filter, but I don't use it much, as it wastes so much water and is so slow. So I use tap water and add Seachem Discus Buffer, and some Blackwater additive. I can't say it makes a difference, but my fish are very happy and healthy, and it gives me confidence(which is the main thing). My main tank runs Co2 with a Co2 controller to keep the water at a constant pH of 6.8. This is both good for my fish and plants. I do 50% water changes every 3 days and keep the substrate clean. I have it all worked out so that it is effort free, and actually like doing it

The tank always seems ok, baring the odd outbreak of Diatoms, which I my only answer for is a toothbrush and a sponge, but it doesn't happen too often, and I don't know why it does, when it does

Here it is today, and the fish are really happy.......

The little guys are super lively. It's pushing midnight here now, and I am just transfixed on the goings on! Sat outside watching the wee guys trying to swim, and mum and dad trying to get control.....Irish coffee keeping me alert!!
