I'm getting a 5 gallon mini bow aquarium for my fry. I'm hoping it arrives this week. Half my fry are 3 weeks old, the rest are 4 days old. I will use water from the aquarium they are in now to fill up the new one. Since they will be the only fish in the tank is it still necessary to put plants for them to hide in? I was planning on just putting in some bottom decor only.

Is there anything else I need to do for them?

I'm feeding them freeze dried brine shrimp and they are in a net right now in my 29 gallon aquarium.
Some of my 3 week old fry are about 1/2 inch long. Almost.

I still can't see to tell the sexes apart. I thought it was 3 weeks....I'll keep watching though.

Thanks for any tips, ideas, and expertise.

You still probably need to put a little sponge filter in it, and cycle it before adding the fry, a few plants will be best as well, they like to hang around in them.

I have a filter from my 10 gallon tank that I don't use anymore. I was planning on using that, as well as the heater I used in that tank. So I do have a cycled filter. Or will it need to be recycled?

That will be fine, if you use them you shouldnt need to re cycle i wouldnt of thought..

Keep checking water stats and do frequent water changes. :)

If you are planning on using a filter which you used before, but have not used for a while, then the bacteria will have died and the filter will need to be recycled (I am not contradicting you 5teady, I am not sure that it is clear from the original post).

That said, the load caused by a few fry will be quite small. If you are planning on raising the fry in a 3G aquaria then you will need to change the water fairly often, 30% change twice a week will be perfect if you have time.

Thats a perfectly good point m8, i should of asked them if the filter had been used recently, slipped my mind and i didnt think

You was 100% right to point that out :)

Thanks for that.
