Zebra Pleco

Zebras are pretty slow maturing/growing and dont reach spawning age for about 3 years. That means from wild caught to F3 is about 8-12 years depending on a few factors.

I have been extremely lucky with my group which has been spawning since late April 06. I am just now working on segregating a group of the larger offspring to keep for myself. I am hoping to grow them to where they will give me F2s, but I am sure not holding my breath.

Though zebra plec breeders are few & far between, I'm surprised that nobody has come up with the idea of an F1 swap. This would strengthen the bloodlines, while still having the advantage of tank bred fish. This is something I do from time to time with other angel breeders.

blood line swap does happen but not very often as no1 likes to transport fish a big distance.

We have grumpy Zebras - any more that 5 adults in our 130L and we end up with fighting... (footprint about 34"x15")

Tried it twice now and have to drop back to 5 adults for things to settle down again.
