Could be gill flukes. I had a zebra loach with what i think was gill flukes too.
I keep Botia Histrionica now, but whenever i add a new one/group to the tank i use a wormer.
I recommend looking on ebay for something called Kusuri wormer. It is specifically aimed at discus keepers but i find it useful to run it through my tank every now and then. It combats Flukes and internal parasites i believe.
It's not expensive so don't put it off, treat as early as possible and don't worry about plants or filter media it doesn't affect them and is ok to use with catfish too if you have any in the tank. Treat the whole tank as these things usually spread.
